It was his record fifth title at the Cincinnati Masters, and the first occasion that a player won an ATP Masters 1000 event without having serve broken or losing a set. Federer would repeat this accomplishment at the 2015 event. It was Djokovic's fourth runner-up finish at the Cincinnati Masters.

Andy Murray was the two-time defending champion, but lost in the final to Novak Djokovic, 5–7, 7–6(13–11), 6–3, bringing to an end Murray's perfect 12–0 record at the event. The final was voted as the best 2012 ATP World Tour match of the year, and Djokovic had to save 5 championship points in the second set in order to take the match into a decisive set.

Benjamin Becker was the defending champion but lost to Matthew Ebden 5–7, 6–4, 5–7 in the final.

Stan Wawrinka defeated Roger Federer in the final, 4–6, 7–6(7–5), 6–2 to win the singles title at the 2014 Monte-Carlo Masters. It was his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Roger Federer in the final, 7–5, 7–6(7–3), to win the men's singles title at the 2014 Canadian Open. Tsonga became the first man to defeat Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Federer in the same tournament since Rafael Nadal at the 2008 Hamburg Masters.

Roger Federer defeated David Ferrer in the final, 6–3, 1–6, 6–2, to win the men's singles title at the 2014 Cincinnati Masters. It was his sixth title at the event.

John Isner was the two-time defending champion, and he won the title for the third straight year, defeating Marcos Baghdatis in the final, 6–3, 6–3.
