They were led by second-year head coach Mike Minter and played their home games at Barker–Lane Stadium. They were a member of the Pioneer Football League. They finished the season 5–7, 4–4 in PFL play to finish in a tie for fifth place.

The Pioneer Football League (PFL) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a football-only conference. It has member schools that range from New York, North Carolina, and Florida in the east to California in the west. It is headquartered in St. Louis, in the same complex that also contains the offices of the Missouri Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Football Conference. Unlike most other Division I FCS conferences, the Pioneer League consists of institutions that choose not to award athletic scholarships ("grants-in-aid") to football players.
The Big South Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I. Originally a non-football conference, the Big South began sponsoring football in 2002 as part of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), and began operating the Big South–OVC Football Association in partnership with the Ohio Valley Conference in 2023. The Florida State Seminoles football team represents Florida State University in the sport of American football. The team is currently coached by Mike Norvell, and plays home games at Doak Campbell Stadium, the 15th largest stadium in college football, located on-campus in Tallahassee, Florida. The California Golden Bears (Cal) football program represents the University of California, Berkeley in college football as a member of the Pac-12 Conference at the NCAA Division I FBS level. The 2014 Toledo Rockets football team represented the University of Toledo in the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by head coach Matt Campbell in his third full year after coaching the Rockets in the 2011 Military Bowl. They played their home games at the Glass Bowl and were members of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference. They finished the season 9–4, 7–1 in MAC play to finish in a tie for the West Division title with Northern Illinois. Due to their head-to-head loss to Northern Illinois, they did not represent the West Division in the MAC Championship Game. They were invited to the GoDaddy Bowl where they defeated Arkansas State.
