They finished the season 3–9, 2–6 in Big Sky play to finish in a three-way tie for tenth place.
On November 26, head coach Nigel Burton was fired. [1] He finished at Portland State with a five-year record of 21–36.

Portland State Vikings is the nickname of the NCAA-affiliated, intercollegiate athletic teams representing Portland State University of Portland, Oregon. The Vikings compete at the NCAA Division I level in basketball, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis, softball, indoor and outdoor track and field, and cross country. The university has been a member of the Big Sky Conference since 1996. Along with the other Big Sky football programs, Viking football takes-part in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly known as NCAA Division I-AA.
The Portland State Vikings football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Portland State University located in the U.S. state of Oregon. They were led by first-year head coach Bruce Barnum and played their home games at Providence Park, with one home game at Hillsboro Stadium. They were a member of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 9–3, 6–2 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for second place; this was the program's first winning season since 2011. They received an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs, the Vikings first appearance in the FCS playoffs since 2000, where they lost in the second round to Northern Iowa.

After a 3–21 start to the season, head coach Sherri Murrell was fired. Assistant coach Jennifer Mountain was named the Vikings interim head coach for the remainder of the season. They finished the season 4–25, 2–16 in Big Sky play to finish in last place. They failed to qualify for the Big Sky women's tournament.
