Sportin Lithuania is governed by the Physical Education and Sports Department following the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1990. The Lithuanian government established the department to manage physical education in the schools and sports administration in the country. Over the next few years, Lithuanian sports organizations established membership in international governing bodies. Lithuania participated in the Winter Olympics in Albertville and has participated in every Winter and Summer Olympics since.
Paulius Jankūnas is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for Žalgiris Kaunas of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) and the EuroLeague. He is also a member of the senior Lithuanian national team. Jankūnas can play at either center or power forward, with power forward being his main position. He earned an All-EuroLeague Second Team selection in 2018.
The 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships was the 2007 edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship and was held in Mora and Leksand, Sweden between December 26, 2006 and January 5, 2007. The venues were FM Mattsson Arena in Mora, and Ejendals Arena in Leksand. The total attendance was a significant drop off from the 325,000-plus visitors at the previous World Juniors in British Columbia, Canada.

The 2000 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships were the 64th such event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. 42 teams representing their countries participated in several levels of competition. The competition also served as qualifications for division placements in the 2001 competition.
Qualification for the 2007 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 2007 took place between 31 August 2006 and 16 September 2007. A total of seven teams qualified for the tournament. Hosts Spain plus the eight European teams that participated in the 2006 FIBA World Championship qualified directly.
