The twelve best nations played 4 different tournaments in Lyon, Moscow, Barcelona and Bucharest. The team that finished with the most points was declared European Champion. The last two teams were relegated in Division A.

Romania national rugby union team

The Romania national rugby union team represents Romania in men's international rugby union competitions, nicknamed The Oaks (Stejarii), is long considered one of the stronger European teams outside the Six Nations. They have participated in all but one Rugby World Cup and currently compete in the first division of the European Nations Cup, which they won most recently in 2017. Rugby union in Romania is administered by the Romanian Rugby Federation. The team plays in yellow and blue strips.

The Rugby Europe International Championships is the European Championship for tier 2 and tier 3 rugby union nations.

Russia national rugby union team

The Russia national rugby union team represents Russia in men's international rugby union international competitions, nicknamed the Bears, is administered by the Rugby Union of Russia (RUR). The RUR is considered the official successor union of the Soviet Union by World Rugby and the combined CIS team which played in the early 1990s. Since 1992, the team has played as Russia. Its first test match as Russia was against the Barbarians in Moscow in June 1992 and the country's first test against an official Test nation was against Belgium later that same year.

France Sevens

The France Sevens, also called the Paris Sevens, is an annual international rugby sevens tournament that is one of ten competitions on the annual World Rugby Sevens Series. The France Sevens is generally held in May or June on the weekend following the London Sevens and is the last competition in the Sevens Series. France has also hosted tournaments within the European Sevens Grand Prix Series, often at Lyon.

Germany national rugby sevens team

The German national rugby sevens team competes in the top-level European sevens competition, the Sevens Grand Prix Series. In 2012, Germany finished eleventh out of twelve teams and avoided relegation. The team also unsuccessfully took part in the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens qualifying tournament in Moscow in July 2012.

Ireland national rugby sevens team

The Ireland national rugby sevens team competes in several international rugby sevens competitions. The team is governed by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), and has been led by Head Coach Anthony Eddy since 2015.

The Romania national rugby sevens team has competed in the Rugby World Cup Sevens and World Rugby Sevens Series but not yet in the Summer Olympic Games. They are currently competing in the European Sevens Championship.

Spain's national rugby sevens team is one of 15 core teams participating in all ten tournaments of the World Rugby Sevens Series, having qualified by winning the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens qualifier tournament. Spain participated as a core team in the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series, but was relegated the following season.

Rugby union in Poland

Rugby union in Poland is a minor, but growing sport and currently, the Polish men`s national team are ranked 34th in the world as of 31 October 2020.

2012 FIRA-AER Sevens Grand Prix Series

2012 Sevens Grand Prix Series was the 11th round of the Sevens Grand Prix Series for rugby sevens organised by the FIRA – Association of European Rugby. The series was held in three phases hosted by France (Lyon), Russia (Moscow) and Denmark (Odense). The tournament was won by France, who defeated Portugal 21–12 in the final. England, winner of the first two phases of the tournament, were considered to be favourites but eliminated by France in the quarter-finals. England were the overall champions of the tournament.

The Rugby Europe Sevens, whose main division is the Sevens Grand Prix Series, are a series of rugby sevens tournaments held by Rugby Europe. It was formerly known as the FIRA-AER Sevens until 2013, with only one annual tournament prior to 2011, when it was reorganized as a series of tournaments, following the model of the World Rugby Sevens Series, and named the Sevens Grand Prix Series. Rugby Europe also sponsors continental sevens tournaments divided into multiple divisions, incorporating a promotion/relegation system.

The 2013 Sevens Grand Prix Series was the 12th year of the annual rugby Sevens Grand Prix Series for rugby sevens organised by the FIRA – Association of European Rugby. The 2013 Series consisted of two tournaments, held in Lyon, France and Bucharest, Romania. England won both legs, winning the overall 2013 Series.

Polish Rugby Union, abbreviated to PZR, is the only legal Polish representative of Polish rugby union and rugby sevens for both men and women's rugby and all age groups.

The 2015 Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series was an Olympic qualification tournament for rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics which was held over three legs in the cities of Moscow, Lyon and Exeter.

Jordan Conroy is an Irish rugby union player who plays for the Ireland national rugby sevens team, and plays his club rugby with the Buccaneers RFC as a wing.

The Luxembourg national rugby sevens team made up primarily from the XV Team competes annually in European competitions. Entered first tournament in 1996.

The 2019 Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series was the eighteenth edition of the continental championship for rugby sevens in Europe. The series took place over two legs, the first at Moscow in Russia and the second at Łódź in Poland.
