The 2015 League of Ireland Cup Final was the final match of the 2015 League of Ireland Cup, played between Galway United and St Patrick's Athletic. The match was played on 19 September 2015 at 6.05 pm. [1] Galway's route to the final involved them being drawn at home in every round and beating Finn Harps, Cockhill Celtic, Bohemians and Dundalk. St Pat's however were drawn away from home in every round and knocked out Crumlin United, Cork City and Shamrock Rovers en route to the final. The game played out as a 0–0 draw after 120 minutes, with Pats' young goalkeeper Conor O'Malley's save winning the cup 4-3 on penalties for the Inchicore side. [2]

The 2014 season was St. Patrick's Athletic F.C.'s 85th year in existence and was their 63rd consecutive season in the League of Ireland top division. The season was very successful on the field as the Saints began by winning the inaugural President's Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup. The biggest triumph of all however was when top scorer Christy Fagan wrote himself into the club's history books by scoring twice in a 2–0 win over Derry City in the 2014 FAI Cup Final, ending a 53-year hoodoo with the cup for the club. The 2015 League of Ireland Cup, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2015 EA Sports Cup, was the 42nd season of the League of Ireland's secondary knockout competition. The EA Sports Cup features teams from the SSE Airtricity League Premier and First Divisions, as well as some intermediate level teams.

The 2015 season was St. Patrick's Athletic F.C.'s 86th year in existence and was the Supersaint's 64th consecutive season in the top-flight of Irish football. It was the fourth year that Liam Buckley was the team's manager, following replacing Pete Mahon in December 2011. The Saints aimed to retain their FAI Cup, President's Cup and Leinster Senior Cup titles that were won during the 2014 season. Pats also competed in the UEFA Europa League and the EA Sports Cup. The 2015 League of Ireland fixtures were released on 16 December 2014, with the Saints' first game being an away fixture against South Dublin rivals Shamrock Rovers on 6 March 2015. The season turned out to be a very disappointing one for players, management and fans alike as the Saints finished of way off the top of the league, only securing European football on the final day, were knocked out of the FAI Cup at the early stages and failed to get past the first hurdle in the Europa League. However they did win the 2015 League of Ireland Cup on penalties versus Galway United on 19 September 2015, completing the set of trophies for manager Liam Buckley, meaning he has won every trophy possible to win with the Saints in the last three seasons. During the season, the team also set a club record winning streak in the league that stretched 9 games, beating the previous record of 8.

Galway United Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Galway. They play in the League of Ireland Premier Division following promotion from the First Division in 2023. They were founded as Galway Rovers F.C. during the 1930s. They made their League of Ireland debut in 1977–78 and changed their name to Galway United in 1981–82. Limerick's route to the final involved them beating fellow First Division side Cobh Ramblers, before beating Premier Division sides Wexford Youths, Galway United and Derry City. St Pat's however were drawn away from home in every round as they knocked out Dundalk, Bray Wanderers and Shamrock Rovers en route to the final. Limerick lead at half time thanks to a terrific Lee Lynch strike but Pats hit back in the second half and equalised through Christy Fagan 20 minutes into the half. The game had a dramatic final 6 minutes as the Saints scored 3 goals through Conan Byrne, Jamie McGrath and Graham Kelly to retain the trophy.

The 2019 League of Ireland Cup, also known for sponsorship reasons as the 2019 EA Sports Cup, was the 46th season of the League of Ireland's secondary knockout competition. The EA Sports Cup featured teams from the SSE Airtricity League Premier and First Divisions, as well as some intermediate level teams. Dundalk defeated Derry City in the final in a penalty shoot-out, following a 2-2 draw.

Greg Bolger is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for League of Ireland First Division club Cork City. His previous clubs are UCD, Sporting Fingal, Dundalk, St Patrick's Athletic, Cork City, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers.
