The League of Ireland Cup 2006 was the 33rd staging of the League of Ireland Cup.
The 2006 League Cup kicked off in April. Sixteen league clubs and the Kerry League entered the competition. There were two clubs drawn to face each other in the first round, with the rest given byes to the second round.

The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association. Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent Women's FA Cup has been held since 1970.

Cliftonville Football & Athletic Club is a Northern Irish, semi-professional association football club playing in the NIFL Premiership – the top division of the Irish League. The club was founded in September 1879 by John McAlery in the suburb of Cliftonville in north Belfast. It is the oldest football club in Ireland and celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2019. Since 1890, the club has played home matches at Solitude. Cliftonville contests the North Belfast derby with nearby rivals Crusaders, and also has local rivalries with Linfield and Glentoran. The 2006–07 UEFA Cup was the 36th UEFA Cup, Europe's second-tier club football tournament. On 16 May 2007, at Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland, Sevilla won their second consecutive UEFA Cup, defeating Espanyol 3–1 on penalties after the match finished 2–2 after extra time. Sevilla became the first side to win the competition two years in a row since Real Madrid achieved this feat in 1985 and 1986.
Eoin Bradley is a Gaelic footballer and association footballer. He plays the former for the Glenullin club and, previously, for the Derry county team. The FAI Cup 2006 was the 86th staging of The Football Association of Ireland Challenge Cup or FAI Cup. This season's competition was the last to be sponsored by Carlsberg. It officially kicked off in late April, when twenty clubs from the junior and intermediate leagues battled it out for the chance to face League of Ireland opposition in the second round. The ten winners of those ties were joined in the second round by the 22 League of Ireland clubs. The competition ran until early December, with the final taking place on Sunday, December 3.
