The League of Ireland Cup 2005 was the 32nd staging of the League of Ireland Cup.
The 2005 League Cup kicked off in May. A representative team of the Mayo League joined the 22 league clubs in the draw. There were fourteen clubs drawn to face each other in the first round, with the rest given byes to the second round.

Linfield Football Club is a Northern Irish professional football club based in south Belfast which plays in the NIFL Premiership – the highest level of the Irish League. The fourth-oldest club on the island of Ireland, Linfield was founded as Linfield Athletic Club in March 1886 by workers at the Ulster Spinning Company's Linfield Mill. Since 1905, the club's home ground has been Windsor Park, which is also the home of the Northern Ireland national team and is the largest football stadium in Northern Ireland. Tallaght Stadium is an association football stadium in the Republic of Ireland based in Tallaght, South Dublin. The club Shamrock Rovers originally announced details of the stadium in July, 1996.
