On 26 March 2015, two passenger trains collided in Phachi District, Thailand. One train was stationary when it was run into by another. More than 50 people were injured, three seriously.

Accident

The accident occurred at 22:15 local time (15:15 UTC) when an Express Train no.69 from Bangkok to Nong Khai and a Rapid Train no.107 from Bangkok to Den Chai collided. [1] The Nong Khai train was stationary when it was run into by the other. [2] Six carriages were derailed and 52 people were injured, [3] with three of them suffering serious injuries. Damages were estimated at 80 million baht. [2] There were more than 150 passengers on the two trains. [1]

Investigation

Thai Police opened an investigation into the accident. It is suspected that the driver of the Phrae train passed a red signal, causing the accident. [2]

The Penukonda train collision occurred in the early hours of 22 May 2012, when the Bangalore bound Hampi Express crashed into a stationary freight train near Penukonda, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The fire was brought under control and rescue and relief operations started in a couple of hours. Railway Minister Mukul Roy, who was in Kolkata, rushed to the site of the accident and ordered an inquiry into it. Early reports suggested that Hampi Express overshot a signal and collided with a stationary goods train. Roy also announced a compensation of Rs 500,000 to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 100,000 for those who sustained grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 to those who received minor injuries.
