Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. The Finnish entry was selected through the national selection Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), which consisted of a three introduction shows, three elimination shows and a final, organised by the Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle). Krista Siegfrids represented Finland with the song "Marry Me", which qualified from the second semi-final of the competition and placed 24th in the final, scoring 13 points.

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu is an annual music contest organised by the Finnish public broadcaster Yle. UMK began in 2012 as a new concept for the Finnish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, replacing the original Finnish Eurovision Song Contest qualifying event which had been held since 1961.

Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Aina mun pitää", written and performed by punk band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. In February 2015, Finnish broadcaster Yle organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2015 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria. "Aina mun pitää" performed by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät emerged as the winner. In the lead up to the Eurovision Song Contest, Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät garnered media interest because the band is composed of persons with developmental disabilities. In the first of the Eurovision semi-finals, Finland failed to qualify to the final, placing sixteenth and last out of the 16 participating countries with 13 points.

Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät were a Finnish punk rock band, formed in 2009 in a charity workshop for adults with developmental disabilities. Three members of the group have Down's syndrome, while guitarist and bandleader Kurikka is autistic. They are the main focus of the 2012 Finnish documentary film The Punk Syndrome. In 2015, they qualified for the finals of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, which they later won; they represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 but got knocked out in the semi-final. The group disbanded in December 2016 when guitarist Pertti Kurikka turned 60 years old and retired from playing punk rock.

Six entries competed in each semi-final and the top three from each semi-final, as selected solely by a public vote, advanced to the final. Nine entries competed in the final on 27 February where the 50/50 combination of votes from ten jury groups representing different factions of Finnish society and votes from the public selected "Sing It Away" performed by Sandhja as the winner.

Sandhja Finnish singer

Sandhja Kuivalainen, known professionally as simply Sandhja, is a Finnish singer. She represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Sing It Away". Sandhja was born to an Indo-Guyanese mother and a Finnish father.

It was later included on Aalto's major-label international debut studio album, Wild Wild Wonderland as its second single.

Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Their entry was selected using their national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2019 on 2 March 2019, where all three entries were performed by DJ Darude along with singer Sebastian Rejman, who were selected by the Finnish national public broadcaster Yle on 29 January 2019 to perform the nation's entry at the 2019 contest. "Look Away" won the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu and was the Finnish entry in the Eurovision 2019, in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Finland originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020(Contest for New Music 2020) on 7 March 2020 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. However, as a result of the 2019-20 pandemic of Coronavirus, the contest was cancelled.
