Elitedivisionen 2015-16 (or 3F-ligaen due to sponsorship reasons) was the 44th edition of Denmark women's football premier league. It is controlled by the DBU. It ran from 8 August 2015 [1] to 18 June 2016.

Elitedivisionen is the highest-level league competition for women's football clubs in Danish football. The first national championship was contested in 1973. The current name Elitedivisionen was established in 1994.

Fagligt Fælles Forbund Trade union in Denmark

The Fagligt Fælles Forbund, usually referred to as 3F, is a trade union centre in Denmark. It was formed in 2004 from the merger of the Kvindeligt Arbejderforbund i Danmark, KAD and the Specialarbejderforbundet i Danmark, SID. KAD was founded in 1885 and was an all-women union.

Format

The eight teams play each other twice for a total of 14 matches per team. After that the top six teams play the championship round and the bottom two teams play the qualification round. [2]

In the championship round, each of the six teams play each other twice. Points accumulated at the regular season are halved and added the points from this round. The champion and runners-up qualify for the 2016–17 UEFA Women's Champions League. [2]

2016–17 UEFA Womens Champions League

The 2016–17 UEFA Women's Champions League was the 16th edition of the European women's club football championship organised by UEFA, and the 8th edition since being rebranded as the UEFA Women's Champions League.

In the qualification round, the two bottom teams of the regular season are joined by the top four teams of the Kvinde 1. division, each of the six teams play each other twice. All teams start this round on 0 points, the top two teams qualify to 2016–17 Elitedivisionen and the remaining four teams qualify to the 2016–17 Kvinde 1. division. [2]

The 2016–17 Elitedivisionen was the 45th season of the women's football top level league in Denmark. Fortuna Hjørring was the defending champion.
