The 2016 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships, consisting of men's and women's singles and doubles tournaments, were played concurrently from May 19 to May 30, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The event was the 71st edition of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship [1] and the 35th edition of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship. [2] 2016 marked the 11th instance that the men's and women's tournaments were held at the same venue. [3]
Stanford defeated Oklahoma State in the women's team final, 4-3, extending their record number of national titles to 18 and winning their first since 2016. Danielle Collins won her second singles championship for Virginia after previously holding the trophy in 2014. Florida's Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan claimed the doubles title with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the final over California.
On the men's side, Virginia won its third team championship in four years. The Cavaliers reprised the result of the 2015 final by defeating Oklahoma, 4-1 – the Sooners' third consecutive loss in the final round. UCLA's Mackenzie McDonald swept the individual honors, dropping one set each en route to the singles title (over finalist Ohio State's Mikael Torpegaard) and doubles title with Martin Redlicki.

The NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament, sometimes known as the College Cup, is an American intercollegiate soccer tournament conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and determines the Division I men's national champion. The tournament was formally held in 1959, when it was an eight-team tournament. Since then, the tournament has expanded to 48 teams, in which every Division I conference tournament champion is allocated a berth. Among the most successful programs, Saint Louis won 10 titles during dynasty years between 1959 and 1973. Indiana has won 8 titles beginning in 1982, whereas Virginia has won 7 titles beginning in 1989. Syracuse won its first national title in its first appearance in 2022.
Allen E. Fox is an American former tennis player in the 1960s and 1970s who went on to be a college coach and author. He was ranked as high as U.S. No. 4 in 1962, and was in the top ten in the U.S. five times between 1961 and 1968.
Bryan Shelton is an American former college tennis coach and former professional tennis player. During his playing career, he won two singles and two doubles ATP tour titles, and reached the mixed doubles final at the 1992 French Open, partnering Lori McNeil. Shelton played collegiately for Georgia Tech from 1985 to 1988, and then played professionally from 1989 to 1997.

The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship is an annual men's college tennis national collegiate championship sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for teams in Division I. The first intercollegiate championship was held in 1883, 23 years before the founding of the NCAA, with Harvard's Joseph Clark taking the singles title. Michael Mackenzie Lowe McDonald is an American professional tennis player. He reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 37 in singles and No. 49 in doubles in October 2023. He won the 2016 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships in both singles and doubles.
Jennifer Elizabeth Brady is an American professional tennis player. She reached a career-high singles WTA ranking of world No. 13 on 22 February 2021, and a career-high doubles ranking of 44 on 19 August 2019. Brady has won one WTA Tour singles title and one doubles title as well as four singles and five doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit.
Clarence Alley "Clay" Thompson IV is an American former professional tennis player. Thompson was born in Venice, CA, and attended 6-12th grade at Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, CA. He was a top-ranked national junior and ended his high school career as the #3 recruit in the country, choosing to play for Billy Martin at UCLA. During his tenure at UCLA, Thompson earned a BFA in creative writing with a minor in Film/TV, and during the entirety of his 2014 senior season, was the #1 ranked NCAA tennis player. Thompson holds a 119–35 record, one of the highest number of wins for a UCLA player in the school's history.

Erin Hope Routliffe is a New Zealand professional tennis player who previously represented Canada. She became world No. 1 in doubles on 15 July 2024. Routliffe won a major doubles title at the 2023 US Open partnering Gabriela Dabrowski. She became the second New Zealand woman to win a major in the Open Era, after Judy Connor won the women's doubles title at the 1979 Australian Open. Routliffe was a two-time NCAA doubles champion with Maya Jansen for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

The semifinals and championship game were played at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Florida on December 1 and 3, 2017, while the preceding rounds were played at various sites across the country during November 2017. The Stanford Cardinal were tournament champions, winning the final 3–2 over the UCLA Bruins.
