The 2016 Offaly Senior Hurling Championship was the 119th staging of the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Offaly County Board in 1896. The championship ran from 10 April to 23 October 2016.
Coolderry entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St Rynagh's in the quarter-finals. [1] [2]
The final was played on 23 October 2016 at O'Connor Park in Tullamore, between St Rynagh's and Birr, in what was their eighth meeting in the final overall and a first meeting in 15 years. St Rynagh's won the match by 2–16 to 1–15 to claim their 17th championship title overall and a first title in 23 years. [3] [4]

The Offaly Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Offaly GAA clubs. The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1896.
The Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the champion senior clubs in the province of Leinster in Ireland. It is the most prestigious club competition in Leinster hurling.
Seir Kieran is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in a parish and Electoral Division of the same name. Seir Kieran takes its name from Saint Ciarán of Saighir, who founded the parish as a civitas in the 5th century. The club's playing facilities are based in the village of Clareen in County Offaly, Ireland.
Kilcormac–Killoughey GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the areas of Kilcormac and Killoughey, County Offaly, Ireland. The club was founded in 1986 and fields teams in hurling and football. The club won its first ever Offaly Senior Hurling Championship in 2012 and retained the title in 2013.

The beginning of the championship was postponed indefinitely due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Gaelic games. The championship eventually began on 31 July 2020 and, after being suspended once again, eventually ended on 14 August 2021.
