The 2016 Rally Islas Canarias was the first round of the 2016 European Rally Championship season, held in the Canary Islands between 10-12 March 2016.

The rally was won by Alexey Lukyanuk for him to lead the championship, and it continued his winning streak from the last event of the 2015 season. The WRC rally-winner and current Ford works driver Mads Østberg retired early on his ERC début after having led from stage one. In the latter stages, the field was headed by a non-registered local competitor, Enrique Cruz, who won this rally outright, so Lukyanuk won the ERC portion of the event. The WRC-2 winner was Wojciech Chuchala. The WRC-3 winner was Lukasz Habaj. The ERC ladies winner was Emma Falcon.

Andreas Mikkelsen Norwegian rally driver

Andreas Mikkelsen is a Norwegian rally driver. He drove a factory Volkswagen Polo R WRC in the World Rally Championship from 2013 to 2016. Alessandro "Alex" Fiorio is an Italian rally driver. He debuted in the World Rally Championship in 1986. Driving the dominant Lancia Delta Integrale for the Lancia "B-team" Jolly Club, he finished third in the drivers' world championship in 1988 and second in 1989. His father Cesare Fiorio was a former racer, the head of Lancia's factory WRC team and sporting director for Scuderia Ferrari.

Craig Breen Irish rally driver

Craig Breen is an Irish rally driver, who competed for Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT in the World Rally Championship (WRC). He was the 2012 WRC Super 2000 world rally champion, scoring class wins in the Monte Carlo Rally, Wales Rally GB, Rally France and the Rally of Spain. Breen was also the WRC Academy champion in 2011, winning his first event at the 2011 Rallye Deutschland and sealing the championship with a win at Wales Rally GB. The Academy title going down to the last stage, with Breen and Estonian rally driver Egon Kaur ending the season, both on 111 points, Breen then won the title on count back of stage wins, 39 to 14.

Kevin Abbring is a Dutch rally driver. His father, Edwin Abbring, is also a well-known former rally driver.

The 2011 European Rally Championship season was the 59th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season consisted of eleven rallies, beginning with Rally 1000 Miglia on 14 April 2011 and concluding with the Rallye International du Valais on 29 October 2011. Only drivers registered for the European championship were allowed to score points at the events, and they had to compete in a minimum of 8 rallies to be classified in the final championship standings. 28 drivers were registered for the season, the majority (15) were from Italy, four were from Poland, three from Bulgaria, two each from Slovenia and France and one each from Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Rally Estonia is a rallying event organised each year in Estonia. It is the largest and most high-profile motorsport event in the country and runs on smooth gravel roads in the south of the country, some of which are purpose-built for the rally. The city of Tartu hosts the ceremonial start and finish, with the rally headquarters and service park usually based in the Tehvandi Sports Center in Otepää. From 2014 to 2016, Rally Estonia was a round of the FIA European Rally Championship. Rally Estonia was the official WRC Promotional Rally in 2019 and joined the World Rally Championship calendar in 2020.

Ford Fiesta R5 Motor vehicle

The Ford Fiesta R5 is a rally car built by M-Sport and based upon the Ford Fiesta ST road car. It was the first car homologated under the R5 regulations that were introduced in 2013. The Fiesta R5 made its competitive début in 2013 and has competed in the World Rally Championship-2, European Rally Championship and various national competitions since then. An updated model known as the Fiesta R5 Mk. II was unveiled in 2019. Starting in 2019, M-Sport Ford WRT will enter factory-supported Fiesta R5s and Fiesta R5 Mk. The Croatia Rally is an international rally racing event based in Zagreb, Croatia and is planned to be the third round of 2021 World Rally Championship. The event is organised by Automobile Clubs D.T. Motorsport and Cro Dakar Team with the support of Croatian Car and Karting Federation and was a round of the European Rally Championship from 2007 till 2013. The event was known in the past as Delta Rally and Croatia Delta Rally. It has been a tarmac rally since at least the late 1980s.

2016 World Rally Championship

The 2016 World Rally Championship was the 44th season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and drivers competed in thirteen rounds—starting with the Rallye Monte Carlo in January and finishing with Rally Australia in November—for the World Rally Championships for Drivers and Manufacturers.

The auto24 Rally Estonia 2015 was the sixth running of the Rally Estonia and also the sixth round of the 2015 European Rally Championship season. The event was won by Alexey Lukyanuk & Alexey Arnautov who won 8 stages out of 16.

Catie Munnings is a British rally driver. The daughter of former rally driver Chris Munnings, she competes in the European Rally Championship for the Saintéloc Junior Team, and won the FIA European Rally Championship Ladies Trophy in 2016. She also presented Catie's Amazing Machines on the BBC television channel CBeebies.

Jari Huttunen Finnish rally driver

Jari Huttunen is a Finnish rally driver from Kiuruvesi. He currently competes in the World Rally Championship-2, the premier support category of the World Rally Championship, for Hyundai Motorsport. He gained notoriety in the championship after winning his very first rally in the WRC-2 category, at the 2017 Rally Finland.

The 2018 European Rally Championship was the 66th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season was also the sixth following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Kajetan Kajetanowicz was the reigning champion but he didn't return to defend his title.

Oliver Solberg Swedish rally driver

Oliver Solberg is a Swedish-Norwegian rally driver. He is the son of the 2003 World Rally Champion, Petter Solberg, and Swedish mother Pernilla Walfridsson, who is also a successful former rally driver.
