The 2016 World Deaf Football Championships were the third edition of the international competition of deaf football national men's and women's teams. They were organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (CISS), and were held in Agropoli, Capaccio and Salerno in Italy between 19 June and 2 July 2016. In the men's championship, Turkey won the title for the second time, defeating Germany in the final, Russia became bronze medalist before Argentina. In the women's championship, the United States won the title for the second time, defeating Russia in the final, Great Britain became bronze medalist before Poland. [1]

The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, also known as the Basketball World Cup for Women or simply the FIBA Women's World Cup, is an international basketball tournament for women's national teams held quadrennially. It was created by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Its inaugural game was in 1953 in Chile, three years after the first men's World Championship. For most of its early history, it was not held in the same year as the men's championship, and was not granted a consistent quadrennial cycle until 1967. After the 1983 event, FIBA changed the scheduling so that the women's tournament would be held in even-numbered non-Olympic years, a change that had come to the men's tournament in 1970.

Egypt competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012, sending one of its largest delegations ever. A total of 110 Egyptian athletes participated in 83 events across 20 sports, with more women taking part than ever before. The nation's flagbearer in the opening ceremonies was Hesham Mesbah, a judoka who was Egypt's only medalist at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Goh V Shem is a Malaysian badminton player in the doubles event. He was partnered with Tan Wee Kiong after their outstanding performance at the 2014 Thomas Cup. Together, Goh and Tan won the gold medal for the men's doubles event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games as well as all their matches in the mixed team event, helping Malaysia retain the gold medal for the third consecutive time. They also won the bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games and the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, thus making them the second ever Malaysian men's doubles pair to win the silver medal at the Olympic Games 20 years after the feat was achieved by Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock in 1996 Atlanta. Goh and Tan are also the fourth Malaysian men's doubles pair to hold the world number 1 ranking after Cheah and Yap followed by Chan Chong Ming and Chew Choon Eng, and later on by Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong ever since official rankings were kept in the 80s.
Evgeny Mikhailovich Rylov is a Russian competitive Olympic champion swimmer. He specializes in backstroke events. He has won three gold medals at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, and a bronze on his major debut at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan. He also won a bronze at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and a gold at 2017 Fina World Championships in Budapest, both were from the 200 m backstroke event. He won the gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke and 200 metre backstroke at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He currently represents Energy Standard in the International Swimming League.
Gadzhimurad Gazigandovich Rashidov is a Russian freestyle wrestler who competes at 65 kilograms. A heavily accomplished athlete, he is most notably the reigning World Champion and the reigning and three-time Russian National Champion. 2020 Summer Olympics bronze medalist at 65 kg.
