The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. The conference was originally formed in 1951 as the State Teachers Conference, and was temporarily named the Pennsylvania State Teachers College Conference in 1956 before being assuming its current name in 1964.

He served as the head football coach at Youngstown State University from 1973 to 1974, Southern Illinois University from 1976 to 1983, and Memphis State University—now known as the University of Memphis—from 1984 to 1985, compiling a career college football record of 73–57–3. In 1975, he was a special teams coach for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). In 1983, his Southern Illinois team went 13–1, the best record in school history, winning the 1983 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game.
The Edinboro Fighting Scots are the athletic teams that represent Pennsylvania Western University Edinboro, located in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Fighting Scots are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for 15 of 17 varsity sports. The wrestling team competes in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) as a member of NCAA Division I and the wheelchair basketball team competes outside of NCAA governance in the NWBA Intercollegiate Division. The Fighting Scots have been a member of the PSAC since its foundation in 1951.

Robert William Thurbon was an American football player and coach of football and basketball. He played professionally as a halfback in the National Football League (NFL) with the Steagles and Card-Pitt and the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) with Buffalo Bisons. Thurbon was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. He served as the head football coach at Edinboro State Teachers College—now known as PennWest Edinboro—from 1956 to 1959, compiling a record of 15–16–2. He was also the head basketball coach at Edinboro from 1956 to 1959, tallying a mark of 23–37. Before he was hired at Edinboro in 1956, Thurbon was a teacher and backfield coach under Joe Setcavage at North East High School in North East, Pennsylvania.

He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Harris has also played in the Arena Football League (AFL) and United Football League (UFL). He played college football at Edinboro University. As Edinboro's starting quarterback, he broke "every career passing record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference" and was a two-time finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded each year to the individual selected as the most valuable player in NCAA Division II.

Sox Harrison Stadium is a stadium in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Pennsylvania Western University Edinboro. It is home to the Edinboro Fighting Scots of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The stadium is named for B. Regis "Sox" Harrison, who served as the head football coach at Edinboro from 1926 to 1938 and 1941-42 before being inducted into the university's Athletic Hall of Fame. The stadium was officially opened in 1965.

The 1970 Westminster Titans football team was an American football team that won the NAIA Division II football national championship. They represented Westminster College, a small college in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, with a total enrollment of 1,558 students, competing against other "small" colleges like Texas A&I with enrollments as high as 21,000. The Titans competed as an independent during the 1970 NAIA Division II football season. In their 19th season under head coach Harold Burry, the Titans compiled a perfect 10–0 record and outscored opponents by a total of 284 to 62. Burry was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
