The 2017 Men's South American Volleyball Club Championship was the ninth official edition of the men's volleyball tournament, played by seven teams from 21 to 25 February 2017 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. [1] Sada Cruzeiro won its second consecutive title, the fourth overall, and qualified for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship in Poland. [2] Yoandry Leal was elected the Most Valuable Player.

Yoandy Leal Hidalgo is a volleyball player who plays as a wing-spiker for Italian club Gas Sales Piacenza. Born in Cuba, he is a former member of the Cuba men's national team (2007–2010) and currently represents Brazil after gained the Brazilian citizenship in June 2015.
Robertlandy Simón Aties is a Cuban volleyball player, a member of Cuba men's national volleyball team from 2005 to 2010 and from 2019 to present day and also Italian club Cucine Lube Civitanova, 2009 NORCECA Champion, silver medalist of the 2010 World Championship, double South Korean Champion.
Wallace Leandro de Souza, known by the mononym Wallace, is a Brazilian volleyball player, member of the Brazil men's national volleyball team, 2016 Olympic Champion, silver medallist of the Olympic Games, 2014 and 2018 World Championship, three–time South American Champion.

The Minas Gerais Volleyball Championship is the top level men's and women's volleyball competition in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The first edition happened in 1934 and it has been disputed yearly, with some interruptions. The tournament was initially organized by the Minas Gerais Association of General Sports (AMEG). The Minas Gerais Volleyball Federation was founded in 1942, and has organized all editions since then.
William Arjona is a Brazilian volleyball player, a member of Brazil men's national volleyball team and Brazilian club Sada Cruzeiro. He is a 2016 Olympic Champion. Arjona was called up for the adult national team for the first time in 2003, he played four years in Bolivar, where he conquered the national championship four times and was chosen as the best player in the country. He came back in Brazil in 2010 to play for Sada Cruzeiro, where he won the Superliga 2012 as the best setter in the competition. In 2013, he was called and took part in Brazil World League silver medal campaign and won the gold medal in the South American Championship. Arjona was named Best Setter in World Club Championship. William Arjona won the FIVB world league with Sada Cruzeiro three times in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
