The 2017 Utah State Aggies football team represented Utah State University in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Aggies were led by fifth-year head coach Matt Wells and played their home games at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium. They competed as members of the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference. They finished the season 6–7, 4–4 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for fourth place in the Mountain Division. They were invited to the Arizona Bowl where they lost to New Mexico State.

Coaching changes

Utah State hired David Yost as offensive coordinator on December 30, 2016. Yost had previously been the quarterbacks coach at Oregon. [1] Both of the co-offensive coordinators from 2016 remain on staff; Jovon Bouknight as Outside Receivers Coach, and Luke Wells as the Tight Ends/inside receivers coach.

Schedule

Utah State's 2017 football schedule was announced on March 2, 2017. [3] The Aggies will play three straight home games for the first time since 1997, in a stretch that includes in-state rival BYU, Colorado State, and rival Wyoming. [3]

Matthew Scribner Wells is an American football coach and former quarterback who currently serves as Associate Head Coach, Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Kansas State. Wells previously served as the offensive coordinator and then head coach at Utah State University, where he was named Mountain West conference coach of the year in 2013 and again in 2018. He was named head coach of Texas Tech on November 29, 2018, and led the team until his firing midway through the 2021 season. He also served as an offensive analyst for Oklahoma under Head Coach Brent Venables during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Matthew Sauk is an arena football coach and former quarterback. He played college football at Utah State, was an af2 quarterback from 2001 to 2005, and an AFL quarterback from 2002 to 2008. He has been a football coach since 2008. After being the offensive coordinator for the Utah Blaze from 2011 to 2013, he became the Portland Thunder head coach in 2014. He was the head coach of the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles of the Indoor Football League (IFL) in 2017 and the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League in 2019.

The 2020 Utah State Aggies football team represented Utah State University in the 2020 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Aggies played their home games at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah as members of the Mountain West Conference. Head coach Gary Andersen, who was in his second year back at Utah State, coached the first three games before he was fired after going 0–3. Co-defensive coordinator Frank Maile was named interim head coach. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Aggies finished the conference-only season 1–5 to finish in 11th place in Mountain West play.

The 1995 Utah State Aggies football team represented Utah State University in the 1995 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Aggies were led by first-year head coach John L. Smith, who replaced Charlie Weatherbie after he left to coach Navy. The Aggies played their home games at Romney Stadium in Logan, Utah. Despite a difficult 0–5 start to the season, the Aggies won four of the next six and finished third in the Big West Conference.

The 2021 Utah State Aggies football team represented Utah State University in the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Aggies were led by first-year head coach Blake Anderson and played their home games at Maverik Stadium. They competed as members of the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference. The finished the season 11–3, 6–2 in Mountain West play to win West division to earn a bid in the Mountain West Championship game. They defeated San Diego State in the championship game to win the Mountain West championship. They received an invitation to the LA Bowl where they defeated Oregon State.

The University of Idaho's football program, nicknamed the "Vandals", began in 1893.

David Yost is an American football coach. He is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the FIU Panthers football team.
