The 2018 Mountain West Conference women's basketball tournament was held from March 5-9, 2018 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in Las Vegas, Nevada. [2] The winner of the tournament received an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA tournament. The 2017 tournament, saw Boise State defeat Fresno State 66-53 to receive an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA tournament.

As a result, the received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed in the West region. They defeated Arkansas–Little Rock, Ohio State, Ball State, and Loyola Marymount to advance to the school's second Final Four in 4 years. In the Final Four, they defeated Georgia Tech to advance to the championship game where they defeated Duke for the school's only national championship.

With TCU departing for the Big 12, and Fresno State and Nevada joining the MWC, the MWC will have a 9 team tournament for 2013. As the tournament champion, New Mexico received the Mountain West Conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

The 2014 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament was held on March 12–15, 2014 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. With San Jose State and Utah State added to the MWC, the MWC had an 11-team tournament for 2014. The top five seeds got a first round bye. For the second year in a row, the first round games were online, quarterfinals and semifinals games were on the CBS Sports Network and the championship game was televised on CBS.
