City Assembly elections were held in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, on 27 May 2018. [1] Parties and coalitions ran for 61 seats in the Assembly, with 3% election threshold required to win seats.

Electoral system

Voters in Podgorica determine the composition of the City Assembly, which in turn elects the Mayor. This means that the Mayor is only indirectly elected by the voters. Only parties which reach an electoral threshold of 3% may enter the Assembly. The Mayor may or may not be a councilor of the Assembly. Assembly's composition is subject to a 4-year election cycle.

Campaign

Democratic Montenegro (DCG) and United Reform Action (URA) decided to run together under the name the "Podgorica for 21st century", with DCG member Vladimir Čađenović as ballot carrier.

Social Democratic Party (SDP) decided to form a pre-election alliance with Democratic Alliance (DEMOS) under the name the "Civic Alliance for Changes", with SDP member Ivan Vujović as ballot carrier.

Bosniak Party (BS) decided to sign an agreement with ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and Liberal Party (LP), as did the Montenegrin (CRN), Positive Montenegro (PCG) and Democratic Union of Albanians (DUA), with university professor Ivan Vuković as ballot carrier, while the current Mayor Migo Stijepović took second place on electoral list.

Social Democrats (SD) decided to run independently under the slogan "Consistently for Podgorica", with current president of Podgorica City Assembly Đorđe Suhih as ballot carrier.

Socialist People's Party (SNP) and Democratic Front (DF) agreed to form a pre-election local alliance under the slogan "Everything for my City", with DF member and MP Slaven Radunović as ballot carrier.

Early parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro on 29 March 2009. In addition to elections for the unicameral Parliament of Montenegro, concurrent local elections were held in Nikšić and Budva, as well as municipal presidential elections in Herceg Novi and Tivat. The parliamentary elections were the eighth since the reintroduction of multi-party system in 1990, and the second since regaining full independence in 2006.

Parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on 16 March 2014, with nineteen electoral lists competing for 250 members of the National Assembly. The election was called early, after tensions in the coalition led by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić scheduled the election at the same time as the previously announced Belgrade City Assembly election. Voter turnout was 53.09%, with 3.22% of votes invalid.

The Democratic Front is a right-wing populist and social conservative political alliance in Montenegro. It is currently composed of the New Serb Democracy, Movement for Changes and Democratic People's Party, with some other minor parties as the alliance's partners at the local level, while United Montenegro and Workers' Party are external members of the Democratic Front parliamentary group. The alliance was formed mainly to overthrow the Democratic Party of Socialists, the party in power from the introduction of the multi-party system until the 2020 parliamentary election.

The Albanian Coalition is the name of several Albanian minority pre-election coalitions in Montenegro. Originally established by Democratic Party president and former Mayor of Ulcinj, Fatmir Gjeka, it currently consists of the Democratic Party, the Democratic League in Montenegro and the Democratic Union of Albanians. The coalition currently has one representative in Parliament of Montenegro.

Elections were held in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, on 23 October 2022, to elect members of the City Assembly. 8 groups ran for 58 seats in the City Assembly, with a 3% election threshold required to win seats.
