The 2021 Acropolis International Tournament is a basketball tournament which was held in OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall in Athens, Greece, from June 18. until June 20, 2021. It was the 30th edition of the Acropolis International Basketball Tournament. The competition is played under FIBA [1] rules as a round-robin tournament. It takes place before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan. [2] The four participating teams will be Greece, Serbia, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. [3] [4] [5]

Panagiotis "Notis" Giannakis, alternatively spelled Panayiotis Yiannakis or Yannakis, is a former Greek professional basketball player and coach. He is considered to be one of the greatest sportspeople of Greece. He started his senior career at the age of just 13 at Ionikos Nikaias and after noticeable success, he achieved extraordinary success as a player with Aris Thessaloniki from 1984 to 1993, in partnership with Greek basketball's biggest star Nikos Galis along with the rest of the squad, while achieving victory as the national team captain in EuroBasket 1987 in Athens, Greece's first major tournament win in non-Olympic sport which, along with Aris' extraordinary success, cultivated the sport in the country. At the end of his career, he won the EuroLeague with Panathinaikos in 1996 As head coach, he most prominently led Greece to its second European trophy in EuroBasket 2005 at Serbia and Montenegro, where a team of new and talented stars shone brightest under the nurturship of Giannakis. He would repeat the success the next year, acquiring the silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan, where the team most notably scored a decisive win against the USA stars of the NBA in the semi-final, which would be USMNBT's last loss in a tournament until 2019. However, Greece's arch rivals Spain would defeat Giannakis' team in the final, as they would do again in the semi-finals of the 2007 EuroBasket. Outside of the Greek national team, he would coach Greek clubs like Aris, where he had the most success as player, Olympiacos, where he achieved renewed success, and the China men's national basketball team. As a player, he was primarily a point guard, but he could also play at the shooting guard position. During his playing career, Giannakis was also widely-known under his nickname of "O Drákos", or "The Dragon" in English.

The Greek Basket League (GBL), often also referred to as the Greek A1 Basketball League, or Greek Basketball Championship, is the first tier level professional basketball league in Greece. It is run by HEBA, under the legal authority of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.).

Jon Anthony Korfas is a Greek-American former professional basketball player and coach. During his professional playing career, Korfas won all three of the FIBA Europe continental-wide titles on the club level. With Panathinaikos Athens, he won the top-tier level FIBA EuroLeague championship, during the 1995–96 season. He also won the second-tier level FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup championship in the 1990–91 season, and the third-tier level FIBA Korać Cup championship in the 1993–94 season with PAOK Thessaloniki. With Panathinaikos, he also won the world club title, as he won the 1996 edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. He was also selected to the FIBA EuroLeague All-Final Four Team at the 1993 FIBA EuroLeague Final Four.

G.S. Ergotelis Basketball, also known simply as Ergotelis, is a Greek amateur basketball club, part of the multi-sport club Gymnastics Club Ergotelis, that is based in Heraklion, Crete. The club's basketball department currently competes in the Greek C Basket League, and was officially founded in 1968, the same year it joined the registers of the Greek Federation of Sporting Clubs. In 1983, Ergotelis was one of the clubs that signed the establishment of the Cretan Basketball Associations Union. Currently, both men's and women's basketball departments are amateur clubs, that host home games at the Lido Indoor Hall in Heraklion, a basketball court with a capacity of 1,400 spectators. Ergotelis currently holds the record for most regional titles won in Crete, having won a total of 16 regional Championships and 3 Cretan Cups, since the Cretan Local Basketball Committee, the governing body of basketball on the island, was founded in 1968.

The 2018–19 Greek Basketball Cup was the 44th edition of Greece's top-tier level professional national domestic basketball cup competition. The previous winners of the cup were AEK. The cup competition started on 15 September 2018 and ended on 17 February 2019. Panathinaikos won the competition.

It was the 31st edition of the Acropolis International Basketball Tournament. The competition is played under FIBA rules as a round-robin tournament. The four participating teams were Greece, Poland, Turkey, and Georgia.

The 2021–22 Greek Basketball Cup was the 47th edition of Greek top-tier level professional domestic basketball cup competition. The previous winner of the cup was Panathinaikos. The cup competition started on 4 September 2021 and ended on 20 February 2022. Olympiacos won the competition.

It will be the 32nd edition of the Acropolis International Basketball Tournament. The competition is played under FIBA rules as a round-robin tournament. It takes place before the 2023 Basketball World Cup in Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. The three participating teams were Greece, Italy and Serbia.
