The season consisted of two phases. After the draw twenty teams were initially split into White and Red groups.

Following this two-round tournament the top five clubs formed the Promotion Group while the bottom five took part in the Relegation Round.
Despite being in the same group, at this stage no matches were held between the teams who faced each other in Phase 1. Besides, from the previous round the clubs retained only those points obtained in matches against such opponents. [1] It took another seven weeks before each team played ten matches. At the end the four teams advanced to Liga 3 and another four dropped down to Regionuli Liga. [2]

The competition began on 17 August 2011 and ended with the final in May 2012. The defending champions were Gagra. The 2020 Erovnuli Liga or Crystalbet Erovnuli Liga 2020 was the 32nd season of top-tier football in Georgia. Dinamo Tbilisi were the defending champions. The season began on 29 February 2020 and ended on 10 December 2020. The league winner, Dinamo Tbilisi, earned a place in the UEFA Champions League and the second and third-placed clubs, Dinamo Batumi and Dila Gori respectively, earned a place in the new UEFA Europa Conference League.
Liga 4, organized by the Georgian Football Federation, is the fourth tier of the national football league. It was founded in 2019 as a part of comprehensive reorganization of the league system.
Regionuli Liga, run by Georgian Football Federation since 1990, is the fifth and lowest division of the Georgian league system after Erovnuli Liga, Erovnuli Liga 2, Liga 3 and Liga 4. Its participants are both professional clubs and reserve teams of higher league members.

FC Margveti 2006 is a Georgian association football club from Zestaponi, which competes in Liga 4, the fourth division of the Georgian football system.
FC Imereti is a Georgian association football club from the town of Khoni. They currently take part in Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of the national league system.
