Greco-Roman wrestling Style of amateur wrestling

Greco-Roman, Graeco-Roman, classic wrestling or French wrestling is a style of wrestling that is practiced worldwide. Greco-Roman wrestling was included in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and has been in every edition of the summer Olympics held since 1904. This style of wrestling forbids holds below the waist, which is the main feature that differentiates it from freestyle wrestling. This restriction results in an emphasis on throws, because a wrestler cannot use trips to bring an opponent to the ground or hook/grab the opponent's leg to avoid being thrown.

Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. American collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules.

The World Wrestling Championships are the Amateur Wrestling World Championships organized by the United World Wrestling. The Men's Greco-Roman Wrestling tournament began in 1904, and the Men's Freestyle Wrestling tournament began in 1951. The Women's Freestyle Wrestling tournament was first held in 1987.

Hamid Sourian Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler

Hamid Sourian Reihanpour is an Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler. He is a six-time World Champion. Sourian won both the Junior World Championships and Senior World Championships in 2005. He is also 2007 and 2008 Asian gold medalist. Sourian won the gold medal in the 55 kg Greco-Roman competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics. According to his championships in the world and the Olympics, he is known as " 7 Star General "

Rıza Kayaalp is a Turkish wrestler competing in the 130 kg division of Greco-Roman wrestling. He is a four times world champion and eleven times European champion. He is a graduate of the Aksaray University Physical Education and Sports Academy and studies his master's degree at Bozok University.

Wrestling has deep historical roots in Armenia. Wrestling was practiced in the Armenian Highlands since ancient times. Armenians have their own variant of the sport called Kokh. It was recorded that King Tiridates III of Armenia won the Ancient Olympic Games in wrestling in 281 AD. During the Soviet era, wrestling became one of the most practiced sports in Armenia and remained popular after Armenia's independence in 1991. Armenian athletes have been successful at international competitions in the last two decades. Many have become World and European champions, both in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. Over half of the fifteen Armenian Olympic medalists and the two gold medal winners have been wrestlers. The sport is overseen by the Wrestling Federation of Armenia.

Mark Madsen is a Danish professional mixed martial artist and former Greco-Roman wrestler. As a mixed martial artist, he currently competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Mukesh Khatri is a retired amateur Indian Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's featherweight category. He represented his nation India at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and then scored a bronze medal in the 55-kg division at the 2005 Asian Wrestling Championships in Wuhan, China. Khatri also served as a member of and trained for Sonkar Wrestling Club in Delhi, under his coach and mentor R.P. Thakran.

Dariusz Jabłoński is a retired amateur Polish Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's featherweight category. Considering one of the world's top Greco-Roman wrestlers in his decade, Jablonski has yielded a remarkable tally of five career medals, including his prestigious gold from the 2003 World Wrestling Championships, and later represented as part of the Polish team in three editions of the Olympic Games. Throughout his sporting career, Jablonski trained for Cement Gryf Wrestling Club in Chełm, under his personal coaches Krzysztof Grabczuk and 1988 Olympic silver medalist Andrzej Głąb.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan, he won the gold medal in the men's 67 kg event. In 2018, he won one of the bronze medals in the men's 67 kg event at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
