The 2022 Barcelona Dragons season is the second season of the new Barcelona Dragons team in the European League of Football.
After a moderate first season, their head coach Adam Rita announced, that he will not return to Barcelona and will become the new head coach of the Catania Elephants. [1] [2] On November 15, 2021 the franchise announced the re-signing of their first player with local hero Àlex González and later their first transfer with the signing of Eduardo Sánchez from the Panthers Wrocław. [3] [4] Furthermore, the management came to an agreement with the municipality Reus to use their stadion for the 2022 and 2023 season. [5] On March 10, 2022 Andrew Weidinger was presented as the new head coach. [6]

The European League of Football (ELF) is a professional American football league. The league consists of 17 teams located in Germany, Poland, Spain, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Czech Republic and France, with plans to expand to 24 teams in 2024. The new league was officially created in November 2020, and kicked off on 19 June 2021.
The 2021 ELF season was the inaugural season of the European League of Football, a newly formed professional American football league based in Europe. It started on June 19, 2021, and ended with a Championship Game in Düsseldorf's Merkur Spiel-Arena, on September 26, 2021.

After winning the first ever match of the new ELF against Frankfurt Galaxy on a last second Phillip Friis Andersen Field Goal, the team went on to post a 7–3 record, winning their North Division and beating the Wroclaw Panthers in the playoffs before going on to lose the inaugural Championship Game to the Frankfurt Galaxy by a score of 32–30.

Andrew Weidinger is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the Rhein Fire of the European League of Football (ELF). Weidinger was the head coach for the Barcelona Dragons in 2022, leading the team to an 8–4 record and their first ever playoff appearance. Weidinger was named the 2022 ELF Coach of the Year for his work with the Dragons. He previously coached for the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, the Arizona Hotshots of the now defunct Alliance of American Football and The University of Arizona.
