The Horizon League is a collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, the league's eleven member schools are located in and near the Great Lakes region.

The 2017–18 Northern Kentucky Norse men's basketball team represented Northern Kentucky University (NKU) during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Norse, led by third-year head coach John Brannen, played their home games at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 22–10, 15–3 in Horizon League play to win the Horizon League regular season championship. They were upset in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament by No. 8 seed Cleveland State. As a regular season league champion who failed to win their league tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Louisville.

The Northern Kentucky Norse were the defending champions, but they were eliminated from the 2017 tournament with a 3–2 loss to the IUPUI Jaguars in the semifinals. IUPUI won the tournament by virtue of winning the penalty shoot-out tiebreaking procedure following a tie with the Milwaukee Panthers in the final.

This was the third overall title for Oakland, all of which have come under head coach Eric Pogue. As tournament champions, Oakland earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.

This was the sixteenth overall title for Milwaukee and second for head coach Kevin Boyd. This was also Milwaukee's sixth consecutive title. As tournament champions, Milwaukee earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2023 NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament.
