The tournament did not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iga Świątek defeated Coco Gauff in the final, 6–1, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 French Open. It was her second French Open title, and she dropped just one set en route, in the fourth round to Zheng Qinwen. With the win, Świątek extended her winning streak to 35 matches, equaling Venus Williams' tally from the 2000 season. Świątek also became the youngest winner of multiple majors since Maria Sharapova in 2006.

This is the first edition of the event as a WTA 125 tournament. It was part of the ITF Women's Circuit from 2016 to 2018. Viktória Kužmová was the champion when the event was last held in 2018, but lost in the first round of qualifying to Amarissa Kiara Tóth.

Mayar Sherif defeated Maria Sakkari in the final, 7–5, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Emilia-Romagna Open. It was her maiden WTA Tour title, and Sherif became the first Egyptian to win a WTA Tour singles title.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Linda Nosková in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–4) to win her 11th WTA Tour singles title. She did not drop a set during the tournament. Nosková reached her first WTA Tour final after saving a match point in the first qualifying round against Anna Kalinskaya, and a further match point in the quarterfinals against Victoria Azarenka.

The 2023 Makarska International Championships, also known as Makarska Open hosted by Valamar, was a professional women's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the seventeenth edition of the tournament and part of the 2023 WTA 125 tournaments. The event took place from 6 to 11 June 2023 at the Tennis Center in Makarska, Croatia.

Zheng Qinwen defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final, 6–4, 1–6, 6–1 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 Internazionali Femminili di Palermo. It was Zheng's first WTA Tour singles title, and she was the first Chinese player to win the singles title at Palermo.

Arantxa Rus defeated Noma Noha Akugue in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–3) to win the women's singles title at the 2023 Hamburg European Open. It was her first WTA Tour title. Rus, at 32 years of age, became the oldest first-time WTA champion in the last 40 years. She was playing in her 126th tour-level main-draw. It was Noha Akuge's first WTA Tour main draw singles appearance. The final was the first between two left-handed players since the 2018 Prague Open.

Nao Hibino defeated Linda Nosková in the final, 6–4, 6–1 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 Prague Open. She became only the fifth lucky loser in WTA Tour history to win a singles title, and the second to do so in the last month.
