An election to all 18 seats on Cavan County Council was held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. [1] County Cavan is divided into 3 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). [2]
The period for nominations ran from 10 a.m. on Saturday 11 May and ended at 12 p.m. on Saturday 18 May 2024. Candidates could be nominated by a registered political party, through the submission of 15 assents from voters in the local electoral area, or alternatively with a deposit of €100. [3] [4]

Mary Freehill is a former Dublin City Councillor, who served as the Lord Mayor of Dublin during the Millennium year from 5 July 1999 to 3 July 2000. She was a Labour Party councillor on Dublin City Council from 1977 to 2024.
An election to all 18 seats on Cavan County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of the 2014 Irish local elections, a reduction from 25 at the previous election. County Cavan was divided into three local electoral areas to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV).
An election to all 31 seats on Cork City Council was held in Cork city in Ireland on 24 May 2019 as part of that year's local elections. Councillors were elected from five local electoral areas (LEAs) on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). This election coincided with an increase in the city area. Several outgoing members of Cork County Council, based in areas transferred to the city, stood for election to the city council. As well as the extension of all LEAs into the former county area, the former LEA of North Central was abolished and its area divided between North West and North East.

The 2018 boundary review committee did not recommend any alteration to the LEAs which had been in place in County Cavan at the 2014 election.

Hughie McElvaney is an Irish businessman and former politician, who is involved with waste management firms across several jurisdictions, with a turnover valued at over €16 million per annum. He was a member of Monaghan County Council, elected originally for Fine Gael but then ran as an independent, representing the Ballybay-Clones Electoral Area since its establishment from the 2014 election onwards, however McElvaney did not run for re-election in the 2024 Monaghan County Council election
