An election to all 37 seats on Donegal County Council will be held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. [1] County Donegal is divided into 7 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). [2] Candidates must be nominated by 12 noon on Saturday, 18 May 2024. [3]

Letterkenny, nicknamed the Cathedral Town, is a large town in County Donegal, Ireland, on the River Swilly in the north-west of Ulster. Along with the nearby city of Derry, Letterkenny is a regional economic gateway for the north-west of Ireland.
Niall Blaney is an Irish politician who has been a Senator for the Agricultural Panel since April 2020. He was a member of Independent Fianna Fáil until he joined Fianna Fáil in 2006, he served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for Donegal North-East from 2002 to 2011. For personal reasons, he decided not to contest the 2011 general election. He had since contested a number of Seanad elections.
Edward Fullerton was a Sinn Féin councillor from Inishowen in County Donegal, Ireland. He was killed at his Buncrana home in May 1991 by members of the Ulster Defence Association (UDA).
Enda Bonner is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and sportsperson. He was a councillor for the Glenties electoral area of Donegal County Council from 1999 to 2019. He was also a Senator from 1997 to 2002. He contested the 1997 general election in Donegal South-West.
Pearse Daniel Doherty is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Donegal constituency since the 2016 general election, and previously a TD for the Donegal South-West constituency from 2010 to 2016. He also previously served as a Senator for the Agricultural Panel from 2007 to 2010.
Brian Ó Domhnaill is an Irish former Independent politician who served as a Senator for the Agricultural Panel from August 2007 to March 2020. He previously represented Fianna Fáil.
Joseph Patrick McGinley (1894–1974) was an Irish Sinn Féin, and later Fine Gael, politician, general practitioner and surgeon.
Ian McGarvey is a former association footballer and former politician. He is a member of Donegal County Council, representing the Letterkenny Electoral Area.
Ciaran Brogan is an Irish businessman and Fianna Fáil politician from County Donegal. He is a member of Donegal County Council, representing the Letterkenny Electoral Area, and was a member of Letterkenny Town Council. He topped the poll in elections in 2004 and 2009.

It's remarkable how time flies! Today, I am thrilled to announce my candidacy as an Independent candidate for the Letterkenny Municipal District in the upcoming 2024 local election.
The upcoming local elections on June 7th will be my 5th county council election campaign. I've been proud to serve the people of Donegal as a councillor for 13 years.
