Yannick Noah defeated the defending champion Mats Wilander in the final, 6–2, 7–5, 7–6(7–3) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1983 French Open. It was his first and only major singles title. Noah remains the most recent Frenchman to win the title, and his victory also marked the last time a man won a singles major with a wooden racket.
Lee Hyung-taik won his first ATP Tour title, defeating Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final, 4–6, 7–6(8–6), 7–6(7–4). He saved a championship point in the third set and became the first South Korean player to win an ATP title.
Novak Djokovic defeated the two-time defending champion Andy Murray in the final, 5–7, 7–6(13–11), 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2012 Shanghai Masters. Djokovic saved five championship points en route to the title, and ended Murray's perfect 12–0 record at the event. The final was voted as the best ATP World Tour match of the 2012 season.
