Lee Hyung-taik won his first ATP Tour title, defeating Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final, 4–6, 7–6(8–6), 7–6(7–4). He saved a championship point in the third set and became the first South Korean player to win an ATP title.
Novak Djokovic defeated the two-time defending champion Andy Murray in the final, 5–7, 7–6(13–11), 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2012 Shanghai Masters. Djokovic saved five championship points en route to the title, and ended Murray's perfect 12–0 record at the event. The final was voted as the best ATP World Tour match of the 2012 season.
Denis Shapovalov was the defending champion but chose to compete in the gentlemen's singles instead. He lost to Jerzy Janowicz in the first round.

Andrey Rublev defeated Márton Fucsovics in the final, 7–6(7–4), 6–4 to capture the men's singles tennis title at the 2021 Rotterdam Open. It was Rublev's fourth consecutive ATP Tour 500 victory, dating back to the 2020 Hamburg Open.

Jannik Sinner defeated the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final, 6–7(5–7), 6–1, 6–1 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Croatia Open Umag.
Evgeny Donskoy and Alibek Kachmazov were the defending champions but lost in the first round to Toshihide Matsui and Kaito Uesugi.
Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler defeated Santiago González and Andrés Molteni in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–1) to win the doubles tennis title at the 2022 Vienna Open. It was both men's second career ATP Tour doubles title, and their second won in their home country of Austria.
Daniel Altmaier was the defending champion but lost in the quarterfinals to Yuta Shimizu.
