Short-track speed skating is a form of competitive ice speed skating. In competitions, multiple skaters skate on an oval ice track with a length of 111.111 metres (364.54 ft). The rink itself is 60 metres (196.85 ft) long by 30 metres (98.43 ft) wide, which is the same size as an Olympic-sized figure skating rink and an international-sized ice hockey rink. Related sports include long-track speed skating and inline speed skating.
The figure skating season is the period of time in which competitions are contested in the sport of figure skating. The skating season begins on July 1 of one year and lasts until June 30 of the next year, thus spanning a full 12 months. The seasons are referred to by the years they span; for example, the 2017–18 figure skating season began in July 2017 and ended in June 2018.
The Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was a series of international short track speed skating competitions, organised yearly by the International Skating Union since the winter of 1998/1999. Every year during the winter, a number of competitions on a number of different distances are held. Skaters can earn points at each competition and the skater who has the most points on a given distance at the end of the series is the winner.
The 2020–21 ISU Challenger Series was scheduled to be held from September 9 to December 5, 2020. It was the seventh season that the ISU Challenger Series, a group of senior-level international figure skating competitions, was held. Originally meant to be a series of ten events, the 2020–21 Challenger Series ended up featuring only two individual events, when eight events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020–21 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was planned to be a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ISU did not manage to organize the competitions.
The 2021–22 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup is a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. The season began on 21 October 2021 in China and ended on 28 November 2021 in Netherlands. The World Cup is organised by the ISU who also runs world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating.
The 2022-23 ISU Speed Skating World Cup was an international level speed skating tournament. The season consisted of 6 events, and began on 11 November 2022 in Stavanger, Norway and ended on 19 February 2023 in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland. The World Cup is organised by the ISU who also runs world cups and championships in short track speed skating and figure skating.
The 2023-24 ISU Speed Skating World Cup is an international level speed skating tournament. The season consists of 6 events, and began on 10 November 2023 in Obihiro, Japan and ended on 4 February 2024 in Quebec City, Canada. The World Cup is organised by the ISU who also runs world cups and championships in short track speed skating and figure skating.
