On 14 July 2025, five members of the Asayish security forces were killed when Islamic State (IS) militants ambushed their checkpoint in Al-Dashisha, Al-Hasakah, Syria. [1]

Background

The Eastern Syria insurgency began after a series of campaigns in 2016 and 2017 which resulted in the loss of Islamic State territory, led by the Syrian Democratic Forces and the CJTF-OIR. Eventually resulted in the taking of the self-proclaimed Islamic State capital of Raqqa, and other areas in the Aleppo, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor Governorates. [2]

Attack

On 14 July 2025, Islamic State militants ambushed a checkpoint headed by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria's internal security forces (Asayish), the following confrontation left at least 5 Asayish members dead. [1] [3] [4]
