The 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifying Tournaments will be held from 19 to 25 August 2024 in Mexico City, Mexico and Kigali, Rwanda. [1] The winner of each tournament, are qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments. [2]
On 2 February 2022, FIBA announced a new tournament that would act as pre qualifiers for the next Olympics or World Cup. [3] It would replace the regional pre-qualifiers that started in 2019 and was created to give more opportunities for member associations to play more meaningful games. [3]
16 teams (four per continent) will participate in two tournaments, where the winning team will advance to the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments. [1] Originally, the 16 teams would play for only 1 spot in the global qualifiers. However, on 28 November 2023, FIBA decided to increase to spots from one to two. [4]
Teams qualified via their final ranking at the FIBA Continental Cups in 2023. [5] Despite originally qualifying, Colombia (5th at the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup) and Italy (9th at the EuroBasket Women 2023) didn't enter. [6] Mexico and Great Britain took the vacant spots.

The draw was held at 14:00 CET on 25 April 2024 at the FIBA headquarters in Mies, Switzerland. [1] [7] Rwandan Minister of Sports, Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju, helped perform the draw.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cupqualification for the FIBA Europe region, began in August 2017 and concluded in February 2019. Contrary to previous years, no teams were automatically placed into the World Cup, so all FIBA Europe nations had to participate in qualification.

The 2022 FIBA Asia Cup qualification was a basketball competition that was played from February 2018 to August 2021, to determine the fifteen FIBA Asia-Oceania nations who would join the automatically qualified host Indonesia at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.
Twelve teams qualified for the women's basketball at the 2020 Summer Olympics tournament. The host nation and the 2018 World Cup winner qualified. Those two teams, however, had to play in the pre-qualifying and qualifying tournaments and took one of the qualifying spots from those tournaments.
