The 28th NAACP Theatre Awards , presented by the NAACP, honored outstanding representations and achievements of people of color in theater during the 2018 calendar year. [1] The ceremony was hosted by Loni Love and took place on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles. [2] [3] [4]

During the ceremony American actress and singer Lillias White was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award. American actress and producer Viola Davis was honored with the Trailblazer Award. American actress Condola Rashad was recognized with the Spirit Award. [5]

Lillias White is an American actress and singer. She is particularly known for her performances in Broadway musicals. In 1989 she won an Obie Award for her performance in the Off-Broadway musical Romance in Hard Times. In 1997 she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for portraying Sonja in Cy Coleman's The Life. She was nominated for a Tony Award again in 2010 for her work as Funmilayo in Fela Kuti's Fela!.

The NAACP Trailblazer Award is presented to a pioneering individual whose theatrical contributions made an outstanding and unique mark in the entertainment industry, therefore, paving the way for others to follow. It is presented part of the NAACP Theatre Awards which commenced in 1991 and presented annually by the Beverly Hills-Hollywood branch of the NAACP to honor outstanding people of color in theatre, following the presentation ceremonies of the NAACP Image Awards.

The ceremony was hosted by Sanaa Lathan and Anthony Mackie and aired on February 17, 2012, on NBC.
