The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards are the annual honors given by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), an organization composed of award-winning writers and movie columnists, for achievements in Philippine cinema for a calendar year. Established in 1981, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) is the Philippines' official counterpart of the United States' Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The FAP was founded through Executive Order 640-A issued by the President of the Philippines. The academy serves as the umbrella organization of various guilds of the movie industry that organize and supervise activities to optimize competency. The FAP gives recognition and awards to film artists, technicians and workers for their outstanding performances and achievements. The Film Academy of the Philippines Awards, shortened as the FAP Awards, have been given since 1983. The purpose of the 1983 award ceremony was to honor film achievements in 1982. In 2005, the name of the award was officially changed into Luna Awards.

The Luna Awards are awards given annually by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) to recognize the outstanding achievements of the Filipino film industry. The first awards were presented in 1983 in Pasay. It is considered to be the Philippine counterpart of the Oscars. It used to be known as the FAP Awards until in 2005 when it got its current name. Since 2007, the Academy started holding simple awards ceremonies due to lack of government funding and reduction of its share from MMFF earnings. This also caused some delays for ceremony scheduling.

The 31st Luna Awards were held on June 1, 2013 at the Quezon City Sports Club and they honored the best Filipino films of the year 2012.

The 30th Luna Awards were held on August 26, 2012 at the Quezon City Sports Club and they honored the best Filipino films of the year 2011.

The 29th Luna Awards were held on July 10, 2011 at the Quezon City Sports Club and they honored the best Filipino films of the year 2010. It was held together with the 27th Luna Awards.

Christian Mercurio Bables, is a Filipino actor. He was declared Best Leading Actor at the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival for his character "Intoy" in the movie Signal Rock. He was also given a Best Supporting Actor Award at the Gawad Urian Awards for his trans woman character "Barbs" in the movie Die Beautiful.

The 34th Luna Awards ceremony, presented by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), honored the best Filipino films of 2015. It took place on September 18, 2016 at the Quezon City Sports Club in Quezon City, Philippines. Actor and director Rez Cortez hosted the show.

The 35th Luna Awards ceremony, presented by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), honored the best Filipino films of 2016. It took place on August 26, 2017 at Resorts World Manila in Pasay, Philippines.

The 36th Luna Awards ceremony, presented by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), honored the best Filipino films of 2017. It took place on September 29, 2018 at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay, Philippines.

The 38th Luna Awards ceremony, presented by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), honored the best Filipino films of 2019. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, it took place online via livestream on December 18, 2020, and was broadcast on UNTV.
