The 4th Rivers State House of Assembly was in session from 29 May 1999 until 29 May 2003. All members of the House were elected on 9 January 1999. The majority party was the Rivers State People's Democratic Party led by Marshal Harry. The presiding officer (Speaker) of the Assembly was Chibuike Amaechi. [1]

Rivers State House of Assembly legislative arm of a state government in Nigeria

Rivers State House of Assembly is the legislative branch of the Government of Rivers State inaugurated in 1979. It is a unicameral body with 32 members elected into 32 state constituencies. The current Speaker of the State Assembly is Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi O. Ibani.

The Rivers State People's Democratic Party, also referred to as Rivers PDP, is the state chapter of the People's Democratic Party in Rivers State, Nigeria. It is currently chaired by businessman and Philanthropist Felix Obuah. Prominent public figures including the late Nigerian senator Ibiapuye Martyns-Yellowe and former governor and Committee Chair on State Creation Peter Odili are products of Rivers PDP.

Marshal Sokari Harry was a Nigerian politician. He was the former National Vice-chairman of the All Nigeria People's Party, who was assassinated in Abuja in 2003 during the presidential elections. He was buried in Obuama, 40 kilometres South of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on 5 July 2003.

Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria) Political party in Nigeria

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is a major contemporary political party in Nigeria. Its policies generally lie towards the centre-right of the political spectrum. National Assembly (Venezuela) Parliament of Venezuela

The National Assembly is the de jure legislature for Venezuela that was first elected in 2000. It is a unicameral body made up of a variable number of members, who were elected by a "universal, direct, personal, and secret" vote partly by direct election in state-based voting districts, and partly on a state-based party-list proportional representation system. The number of seats is constant, each state and the Capital district elected three representatives plus the result of dividing the state population by 1.1% of the total population of the country. Three seats are reserved for representatives of Venezuela's indigenous peoples and elected separately by all citizens, not just those with indigenous backgrounds. For the 2010-2015 period the number of seats was 165. All deputies serve five-year terms. The National Assembly meets in the Federal Legislative Palace in Venezuela's capital, Caracas.

The State Legislative Assembly is the lower house of a state legislature in the States and Union Territories of India. In the 29 states and 2 union territories with unicameral state legislature it is the sole legislative body. In 7 states it is the lower house of their bicameral state legislatures with the upper house being State Legislative Council. 5 Union Territories are governed directly by the Union Government of India and have no legislative body.

Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is a Nigerian politician who served as the fifth Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015.

Senator George Thompson Sekibo CON is a Nigerian senator who represents the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. He became a member of the Nigerian Senate in 2007.

The Governor of Rivers State is the chief executive of the Rivers State government and is one of the governors of the thirty-six states of Nigeria. The governor is supported by the Deputy Governor, both popularly elected for a term of four years. The governor, as head of the executive branch, has the power to appoint commissioners responsible for each of the state's ministries, the heads of parastatals, judicial officers and the state-owned bodies with specific regulatory or administrative duties. Osinakachukwu Thankgod Ideozu is a Nigerian businessman and People's Democratic Party politician. He is currently a member of the Senate of Nigeria representing the Rivers West senatorial district. Ideozu was a member and Minority Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003 where he represented Ahoada East I and was subsequently elected into the Nigerian House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007 where he represented Abua-Odual/Ahoada East Federal Constituency. Ideozu was appointed the Honourable Commissioner of Finance in October 2007 by the then Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, a position he held till June 2009 when the cabinet was dissolved.

The Politics of Rivers State function within the framework of a presidential republic, with the Governor of Rivers State as both head of state and head of government. Rivers State is known for a politically engaged citizenry. The official seat of government is in Port Harcourt. Under the Constitution, Executive power is vested in the Governor and he or she exercises them directly. This does not change the fact that such authority may also be exercised through the Deputy Governor or Commissioners. Legislative power is vested in a 32-member unicameral House of Assembly. Judicial power is exercised solely by the judiciary of Rivers State.

Elections for Governor and the House of Assembly are held every four years, along with federal elections for President and the National Assembly.

Senator Mao Arukwe Ohuabunwa is a Nigerian politician, businessman and currently a serving Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly having served in the 4th and 5th National Assembly as Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia constituency of Abia State under the People's Democratic Party between 1999 and 2007.

The 5th Rivers State House of Assembly was in session from 29 May 2003 until 28 May 2007. All members of the House were elected on 3 May 2003. The majority party was the Rivers State People's Democratic Party led by Uche Secondus. The presiding officer (Speaker) of the Assembly was Chibuike Amaechi.
