The Texas Senate is the upper house of the Texas Legislature, with the Texas House of Representatives being the lower house. Together, they compose the state legislature of the state of Texas.

The 78th Texas Legislature met from January 14 to June 2, 2003 in regular session, and in three called sessions in 2003, and a fourth called session in 2004. All members of the House of Representatives and all members of the Senate were elected in the 2002 General Election.

The 20th Texas Legislature met from January 11 to April 4, 1887 in regular session, and from April 16 to May 15, 1888 in a called session. All members of the House of Representatives and a portion of the members of the Senate were elected in the 1886 general election.

The 1st Texas Legislature convened from February 16 to May 13, 1846 in regular session. Members of the House of Representatives and Senate were elected in December 1845, after an election on October 13, 1845 that ratified the proposed state constitution.

The 3rd Texas Legislature met from November 5, 1849 to December 3, 1850 in its regular session and two called sessions. All members of the House of Representatives and about half of the members of the Senate were elected in 1849.

The 3rd Congress of the Philippines, composed of the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives, met from January 25, 1954, until December 10, 1957, during the 39-month presidency of Ramon Magsaysay and the first nine months of Carlos P. García's presidency.

The 60th Texas Legislature met from January 10, 1967, to May 29, 1967, and again in a special called session from June 4, 1968, to July 3, 1968. All members present during this session were elected in the 1966 general elections. The Democrats retained control of the Legislature.

The 61st Texas Legislature met in 1969 in a regular session from January 14 to June 2 and in two consecutive special sessions from July 28 to August 26 and from August 27 to September 9. All members present during this session were elected in the 1968 general elections.

The 70th Texas Legislature met from January 13, 1987, to June 1, 1987. All members present during this session were elected in the 1986 general elections.

The 62nd Texas Legislature met from January 12, 1971, to May 31, 1971, in regular session, and again in four more special called sessions. All members present during this session were elected in the 1970 general elections.

The 63rd Texas Legislature met from January 9, 1973, to May 28, 1973, in regular session, and again in a special called session from December 18, 1973, to December 20, 1973. All members present during this session were elected in the 1972 general elections.

The 67th Texas Legislature met in regular session from January 13, 1981, to June 1, 1981, and in three subsequent special called sessions. All members present during this session were elected in the 1980 general elections.

The 68th Texas Legislature met in regular session from January 11, 1983, to May 30, 1983, and in two subsequent special called sessions. All members present during this session were elected in the 1982 general elections.

The 71st Texas Legislature met from January 10, 1989, to May 29, 1989, and in six subsequent special called sessions. All members present during this session were elected in the 1988 general elections.

The 72nd Texas Legislature met from January 8, 1991, to May 27, 1991, and in four subsequent special called sessions. All members present during this session were elected in the 1990 general elections.

The 57th Texas Legislature met from January 10, 1961, to May 29, 1961, in Regular Session. Three special sessions were held during 1961 and 1962 as well. All members present during this session were elected in the 1962 general elections.

The 55th Texas Legislature met from January 8, 1957, to May 23, 1957, and in two special sessions in November - December of that same year. All members present during this session were elected in the 1956 general elections.

The 56th Texas Legislature met from January 13, 1959, to May 7, 1959, and in three special sessions from May to August of that same year. All members present during this session were elected in the 1958 general elections.

The 45th Texas Legislature met from January 12, 1937, to May 22, 1937, and in two special sessions, both in 1937, each lasting 30 days.
