The Academy Award for Best Original Score is an award presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to the best substantial body of music in the form of dramatic underscoring written specifically for the film by the submitting composer. Some pre-existing music is allowed, though, but a contending film must include a minimum of original music. This minimum since 2021 is established as 35% of the music, which is raised to 80% for sequels and franchise films. Fifteen scores are shortlisted before nominations are announced.

Rupert Gregson-Williams is a British composer, conductor, and record producer, best known for his film, video game, and television scores. His filmography includes Hotel Rwanda, for which he was awarded the European Film composer award, Hacksaw Ridge, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and its sequel, Over the Hedge, Bee Movie, Abominable, Back to the Outback, Made of Honor, The Holiday, The Legend of Tarzan, and numerous films by Happy Madison Productions, many of which star Adam Sandler. He composed music for the video game Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. His notable works in television include Veep, Catch-22, and The Crown.
Stephen Barton is a Grammy-winning and Ivor Novello award-winning British composer who lives in Los Angeles. He has composed the music for dozens of major film, television, and video game projects, and has won two SCL Awards and a BAFTA nomination for his work.

The Martian is the 2015 science fiction film based on Andy Weir's 2011 novel of the same name directed by Ridley Scott. Two soundtrack albums for the film were released by Columbia Records on October 2, 2015. The first album titled The Martian: Original Motion Picture Score, features instrumental tracks from the original score composed by Harry Gregson-Williams, and the latter, featured incorporated songs used in the film, that was released as a separate album under the title Songs from The Martian. The 75th American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards are to be presented in 2025, at the Royce Hall in Los Angeles, honoring the best editors in film and television of 2024. The nominees were announced on December 11, 2024. To be eligible, movies had to have been released in theaters during the 2024 calendar year, and TV shows had to have been aired between January 1 and November 1, of that same year.
The 14th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards, commonly known as the AACTA International Awards, is presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organisation whose aim is to identify, award, promote and celebrate Australia's greatest achievements in film and television. Awards will be handed out for the best films of 2024, regardless of the country of origin, and are the international counterpart to the awards for Australian films.
