The 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
The 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 21, 1861, for a three-month enlistment. On June 19, 1861, the regiment was moved to Clarksburg, West Virginia, and attached to William Rosecrans' Brigade, in George B. McClellan's Provisional Army of West Virginia. On June 29, it was marched to Buckhannon, West Virginia, and occupied Buckhannon on June 30. The regiment engaged in the Western Virginia Campaign, July 6–17, fighting in the Battle of Rich Mountain on July 11. The regiment was mustered out of service on August 6, 1861. [1]
The regiment lost 5 enlisted men (Alfred Wilson, Richard Lamb, First sergeant Frank Mays, Private John Scotten, and Alfred Lowder) killed in action or died of wounds [2] and 3 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 8 fatalities. [3]
The 14th Indiana Infantry Regiment, called "The Gallant Fourteenth," was an infantry regiment and part of the Union Army's celebrated "Gibraltar Brigade" during the American Civil War. Mustered on June 7, 1861, it was the state's first regiment organized for three years' service. The 14th Indiana served in many major campaigns and battles mostly in the Eastern Theater. During its three years of service, the regiment had a total of 222 casualties.

The 34th Ohio Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. They are well known for wearing early in the war an americanized zouave uniform which consisted of: A dark blue jacket with red trimming, a pair of sky blue baggy trousers with two stripes of red tape going down vertically, a pair of tan gaiters, and a red Ottoman styled fez with a blue tassel. The uniform lasted at least until 1863 based on photographic evidence.

This regiment was the senior Indiana regiment of the Civil War, as it was numbered first in sequence after the five Indiana volunteer regiments which had served in the Mexican–American War.
