A. F. Hassan Ariff is a Bangladeshi lawyer,former Attorney General of Bangladesh and Advisor of Caretaker Government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed. [1] [2]
Ariff was born in Calcutta in 1941. Ariff completed his Secondary Education and High Secondary Education from St. Xavier's College Calcutta. He completed his bachelor's and LLB degrees from the University of Calcutta.
Mr. A. F. Hassan Ariff is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and has been practicing since 1970. Mr. Ariff was enrolled as an advocate of the Calcutta High Court,West Bengal India in 1967. He practiced in the Calcutta High Court as an associate of Senior Advocate late Somen Bose,an eminent constitutional lawyer. Late Justice Bhagabati Prosad Banerjee,an eminent author of "Writ Remedies" was a senior colleague of the same chamber.
Thereafter he shifted to Dhaka and was enrolled in the High Court in 1970. He is the Head of Chambers of the A. F. Hassan Ariff &Associates,a law firm based in Dhaka,Bangladesh having a branch at Chittagong,the commercial and port city.
He held the office of Attorney General for Bangladesh from October 2001 to April 2005. He was the Law Adviser (Cabinet Minister) of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh from January 2008 to January 2009. He is a panelist in the pool of Arbitrators of the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) &SAARC Arbitration Council (SARCO). Besides this,Mr. Ariff is a Court Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
His practice area includes advising Foreign Investors;Construction Arbitration;Commercial Arbitration;Finance,Banking &Securities Matter;Corporate,Commercial &Taxation Matter;Constitutional Law Matter;Public Procurement;Arbitrations and other modes of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
He advised the Roads &Highways Department,Government of Bangladesh;Chittagong Port Authority;Mongla Port Authority;Security Exchange Commission;Bangladesh Bank;Capital Development Authority;Chittagong Development Authority;Chittagong Stock Exchange;University Grants Commission (UGC) Robi Axiata Limited and Grameen Phone Bangladesh. He is the adviser of Dhakeshwari National Temple Complex.
Mr. Ariff was a resource person at the Continuing Legal Education Program and Human Rights Training Program of the Bangladesh Bar Council. He is a leading member of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh,a business community platform for advocating policy formulation at the government level.
Mr. Ariff acted as the Chief of the Election Observer Mission,Asian Network For Free Elections (ANFREL),Manila,Philippines in 2010.
Abdus Sattar was a Bangladeshi statesman. A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP),he served as the president of Bangladesh from 1981 to 1982,and earlier as the vice president. A jurist by profession,Abdus Sattar held numerous constitutional and political offices in British India,East Pakistan and Bangladesh. He was a cabinet minister,supreme court judge,and chief election commissioner.
Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem was a Bangladeshi jurist and statesman. He was first Chief Justice of Bangladesh from 1972 to 1975. He became the president of Bangladesh in the aftermath of counter-coups in November 1975. He was made Chief Martial Law Administrator. Sayem presided over a cabinet headed by the three chiefs of the armed forces. The cabinet included civilian technocrats and politicians. Sayem resigned on grounds of ill health in April 1977,and was replaced by President Ziaur Rahman.
Kamal Hossain,better known as Dr. Kamal is a founding leader,lawyer and politician of Bangladesh. He is known as the "Father of the Bangladeshi Constitution" and regarded as an icon of secular democracy in the Indian subcontinent. Hossain currently heads his own law firm in Dhaka. He retired from political activities and from the post of president of Gano Forum in October 2023.
Muhammad Habibur Rahman was a Chief Justice of Bangladesh Supreme Court in 1995. He was the Chief Adviser of the 1996 caretaker government which oversaw the Seventh parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. He was a faculty member at the Department of Law,University of Rajshahi and University of Dhaka. Besides,being a language activist,advocate of the Bengali language,he wrote extensively and published eight books on the subject. He played a significant role to implement Bengali in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He wrote Jathashabdo (1974),the first thesaurus in the Bengali language.
Abdur Rahman Biswas was a Bangladeshi politician. He was the President of Bangladesh from 1991 to 1996. Biswas represented Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly prior to the independence of Bangladesh.
Makhdoom Ali Khan,is a Pakistani lawyer who is a Senior Advocate Supreme Court. Khan has held numerous positions,including Attorney General of Pakistan,chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council,member of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan,board member of the Federal Judicial Academy of Pakistan and of the Sindh Judicial Academy.
Hossain Zillur Rahman is an academic,economist and policy maker from Bangladesh. He led the drafting of the poverty reduction strategy of the government in 2005 and was a member of the Independent South Asian Commission on Poverty Alleviation (ISACPA). He founded the Dhaka-based think-tank Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) in 1996 and prior to that was for over twenty years a leading researcher at the Bangladesh Institute of development Studies.
Fazlul Karim was a Bangladeshi lawyer,businessman,politician and soldier. He was the first mayor of Cox's Bazar.
Anwarul Iqbal was an adviser of 2007–2009 interim caretaker government of Bangladesh. He was appointed as Local Government and Rural Development Minister &Labour Minister of the non-party interim caretaker government of Bangladesh on 17 January 2007 and remained in that post until elections were held two years later. Later he was given the charge of the Jute &Textile Ministry. He had the responsibility to head three ministries of the government of Bangladesh. He served as the 25th Inspector General of Bangladesh police. He went into voluntary retirement from the IGP post after he had been made officer on special duty and within few days he took charge as the adviser of the caretaker government headed by Fakhruddin Ahmed during the state of emergency in Bangladesh which was declared on 11 January 2007.
A. F. M. Abdur Rahman is a retired justice of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He was elevated to the High Court Division as additional judge on 27 April 2003,and was confirmed as a permanent judge on 27 April 2005 by then President of Bangladesh Iajuddin Ahmed. Rahman retired from the bench on 4 July 2018.

Md. Mozibur Rahman Miah is a Justice of the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. He was a judge of the International Crimes Tribunal-2,war crimes court for crimes committed during Bangladesh Liberation War.
