Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar (born 30 July 1957) is former judge of the Supreme Court of India who is currently serving as the Chairperson of Lokpal of India. He has also served as the chief justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and Himachal Pradesh High Court and as a judge of the Bombay High Court. [2]
Khanwilkar was enrolled as an advocate on 10 February 1982. He joined the chamber of Advocate Prafulachandra M Pradhan at Mulund. He practiced on civil,criminal and constitutional sides before the subordinate courts,tribunals and High Court of Judicature at Bombay on the appellate side and original side. He also practiced exclusively in the Supreme Court of India from July 1984.
He was appointed an additional judge of the Bombay High Court on 29 March 2000 and confirmed as permanent judge on 8 April 2002.
He was appointed chief justice of the High court of Himachal Pradesh on 4 April 2013. [3] [4] Thereafter he was appointed chief justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on 24 November 2013 and elevated to Supreme Court on 13 May 2016.
He retired from the Supreme Court on 29 July 2022 after being on the court for 6 years,2 months and 17 days. [5] After his retirement,a detailed analysis of his judgments was published on 29 July 2022 by The Wire . [6]
On 27 February 2024,he was appointed as the Chairperson of Lokpal of India. On 10 March 2024,President of India Droupadi Murmu administered him the oath of office.

A Lokpal is an anti-corruption authority or body of ombudsman who represents the public interest in the Republic of India. The current Chairperson of Lokpal is Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar. The Lokpal has jurisdiction over central government to inquire into allegations of corruption against its public functionaries and for matters connected to corruption. The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act was passed in 2013 with amendments in parliament,following the Jan Lokpal movement led by Anna Hazare in 2010. The Lokpal is responsible for enquiring into corruption charges at the national level while the Lokayukta performs the same function at the state level. The age of Lokpal on the date of assuming office as the chairperson or a member should not be less than 45 years.
The Lokayukta is the Indian Parliamentary Ombudsman,executed into power,through and for,each of the State Governments of India. It is brought into effect in a state after passing the Lokayukta Act in the respective state legislature,and a person of reputable background is nominated for the post. The post was created to quickly address the working of the government or its administration. Once appointed,Lokayukta cannot be dismissed or transferred by the government,and can only be removed by passing an impeachment motion by the state assembly.

Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta is the Parliamentary Ombudsman for the state of Arunachal Pradesh (India). It is a high level statutory functionary,created to address grievances of the public against ministers,legislators,administration and public servants in issues related to misuse of power,mal-administration and corruption. It was first formed under the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta and Deputy Lokayukta Act-2014 and approved by the president of India. The passage of The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act,2013 in Parliament had become law from January 16,2014 and requires each state to appoint its Lokayukta within a year. A bench of Lokayukta should consist of judicial and non-judicial members. An Upa-Lokayukta is a deputy to Lokayukta and assists him in his work and acts in-charge Lokayukta in case the position fells vacant before time.
Ritu Raj Awasthi is an Indian Judge. He is serving as the Chairperson of 22nd Law Commission of India from 9 November 2022 to 26 March 2024. He was Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court from 11 October 2021 to 2 July 2022. He was a Judge of Allahabad High Court from 13 April 2009 to 10 October 2021. Ritu Raj Awasthi was appointed as Law Commission chairperson on 7 November 2022 and served there till 26 March 2024.On,27 March he is currently appointed as Judicial Member of Lokpal and will serve there till 26 March 2029.
