Rear Admiral Arthur Riby Sampa Nunoo is a retired Ghanaian military officer. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from May 2005 to March 2009 [1] and as the acting Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from 28 January 2009 to 31 March 2009. [2]

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) is the professional head of the Ghana Armed Forces. He is thus responsible for the administration and the operational control and command of the Ghana military. The CDS is a member of the Armed Forces Council. This council advice the President of Ghana on matters of policy relating to defence and also regulates the administration of the Armed Forces. It also advises the President on the promotion of all officers above the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel or its equivalent. The CDS has also been known as the General Officer Commanding (GOC).

Commodore Philemon F. Quaye was a Ghanaian naval personnel, politician, diplomat and religious leader. He served as Chief of the Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy and as a senior officer in the Ghana Army as well. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from 1 April 1969 to 15 May 1972. He was once Scripture Union International Council Chairman. He was also active with World Vision International in Ghana and elsewhere.

Matthew Quashie Ghanaian naval officer

Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie is a Ghanaian naval officer and was the twenty-ninth Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. He also served as the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from 3 April 2009 to 28 March 2013.

Lieutenant General Winston Mensa-Wood is a retired Ghanaian military officer and served as the twenty-third Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from June 1990 to March 1992. He took over from Lieutenant General Arnold Quainoo and handed over to Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie. Prior to that, he was Chief of Army Staff from 1987 to 1990.

Lieutenant General Arnold Quainoo is a Ghanaian former military officer and served as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from August 1983 to September 1989. He took over from Flight Lieutenant J. J. Rawlings and handed over to Lieutenant General Winston Mensa-Wood. He was also the first commander of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) which intervened in Liberia to help end the civil war. He also served twice as Army Commander, first in 1979 following the coup-d'état by the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council which overthrew the Supreme Military Council. He was replaced when the Limann government was elected. He was however re-appointed as Chief of Army Staff following the coup by the Provisional National Defence Council and later as General Officer Commanding the Ghana Armed Forces.

Lieutenant General Ben Akafia is a retired Ghanaian military officer and served as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from October 1996 to February 2001. He took over from Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie and handed over to Lieutenant General Seth Kofi Obeng. He was appointed in 2001 as Ghana's Ambassador to Egypt. He was awarded the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Star of Ghana (MSG) by the President of Ghana on 6 January 2001. He has five sons and a daughter.

The head of the Ghana Army was formerly referred to as the army commander but now has the title above. The current Chief of Army Staff is Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah. He was appointed to the position by President Akuffo-Addo on 7 February 2020.

Peter Faidoo Ghanian naval officer

Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo is a Ghanaian naval personnel who served in the Ghana Navy. He served as the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy. He was appointed to the position by President John Mahama on 15 January 2016 to 2018.. Faidoo visited Western Naval Base Command in Sekondi in a 1 week tour addressing key issues involving a lack of adequate supplies for navy personnel stationed there. He held the appointment as Chief of the Naval Staff until his retirement on 21 December 2018.

Rear Admiral Joy Kobla Amedume served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from June 1977 to June 1979. He was appointed twice to this position first from May 1972 to January 1973 and then from June 1977 to June 1979.

Commander G. Bedu-Addo was a Ghanaian naval personnel and served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from August 1974 to July 1975.

Commodore Stephen Obimpeh is a Ghanaian politician and former officer in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from June 1979 to December 1981.
