The Chief of the Naval Staff is the head of the Naval operations and the administrative head in the Ghana Navy. The current Chief of Naval Staff is Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is the unified armed force of Ghana, consisting of the Army (GA), Navy (GN), and Ghana Air Force.
Vice admiral is a senior naval flag officer rank, usually equivalent to lieutenant general and air marshal. A vice admiral is typically senior to a rear admiral and junior to an admiral.
The Ghana Air Force (GHF) is the aerial warfare organizational military branch of the Ghanaian Armed Forces (GAF). The GHF, along with the Ghanaian army (GA) and Ghanaian navy (GN), make up the Ghanaian Armed Forces (GAF), which are controlled by the Ghanaian Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The Supreme Military Council (SMC) was the ruling government of Ghana from 9 October 1975 to 4 June 1979. Its chairman was Colonel I.K. Acheampong. He was also the Head of state of Ghana due to his chairmanship.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) is the professional head of the Ghana Armed Forces. He is thus responsible for the administration and the operational control and command of the Ghana military. The CDS is a member of the Armed Forces Council. This council advice the President of Ghana on matters of policy relating to defence and also regulates the administration of the Armed Forces. It also advises the President on the promotion of all officers above the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel or its equivalent.

Rear Admiral David Animle Hansen was a Ghanaian naval officer who served as Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Administrative Committee(Greater Accra Regional Minister) from 1966 to 1967. He previously served as Commander of the Ghana Navy(Chief of Naval Staff) from 1962 to 1966. He was the first Ghanaian to be appointed head of the Ghana Navy. Hansen was also the founding director of the National Vocational Training Institute from 1970 to 1980.
Rear Admiral Chemogoh Kevin Dzang was born at Nandom in the Upper West Region of Ghana. He is a retired naval officer and a former Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy. He also served Ghana as a Secretary of State for Defence and an ambassador to Japan with concurrent accreditations to the Commonwealth of Australia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand.
Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie is a Ghanaian naval officer and was the twenty-ninth Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. He also served as the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from 3 April 2009 to 28 March 2013.
Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro is a Ghanaian Military Officer. He served as the Chief of Naval Staff from March 2013 to January 2016. His appointment to the position was done after Vice Admiral Matthew Quashie was elevated to Chief of Defence Staff.
Lieutenant General Arnold Quainoo is a Ghanaian former military officer and served as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from August 1983 to September 1989. He took over from Flight Lieutenant J. J. Rawlings and handed over to Lieutenant General Winston Mensa-Wood. He was also the first commander of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) which intervened in Liberia to help end the civil war. He also served twice as Army Commander, first in 1979 following the coup-d'état by the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council which overthrew the Supreme Military Council. He was replaced when the Limann government was elected. He was however re-appointed as Chief of Army Staff following the coup by the Provisional National Defence Council and later as General Officer Commanding the Ghana Armed Forces.
Lieutenant General Ben Akafia is a retired Ghanaian military officer and served as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from October 1996 to February 2001. He took over from Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie and handed over to Lieutenant General Seth Kofi Obeng. He was appointed in 2001 as Ghana's Ambassador to Egypt. He was awarded the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Star of Ghana (MSG) by the President of Ghana on 6 January 2001. He has five sons and a daughter.
Rear Admiral Arthur Riby Sampa Nuno is a retired Ghanaian military officer. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from May 2005 to March 2009 and as the acting Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from 28 January 2009 to 31 March 2009.
Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo is a Ghanaian naval personnel who served in the Ghana Navy. He served as the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy. He was appointed to the position by President John Mahama on 15 January 2016 to 2018. Faidoo visited Western Naval Base Command in Sekondi in a 1-week tour addressing key issues involving a lack of adequate supplies for navy personnel stationed there. He held the appointment as Chief of the Naval Staff until his retirement on 21 December 2018.
Rear Admiral Joy Kobla Amedume served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from June 1977 to June 1979. He was appointed twice to this position first from May 1972 to January 1973 and then from June 1977 to June 1979.
Rear Admiral Tom Annan was a Ghanaian naval personnel and served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from June 1990 to September 1996.
Vice Admiral E. O. Owusu-Ansah is a Ghanaian naval personnel and served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from October 1996 to March 2001.
Rear Admiral John Kodzo Gbenah was a Ghanaian naval personnel and served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from March 2001 to June 2005.
Rear Admiral Benjamin Ohene-Kwapong was a Ghanaian naval personnel and served in the Ghana Navy. He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy from July 1985 to June 1990.
Vice Admiral Seth Amoama is the current Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces. He was appointed by President Akufo Addo in January 2021. He replaced Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, who retired at the start of February 2021. Prior to that he was the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy appointed since 2019.
