The 2022 AIR Awards is the sixteenth annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards ceremony (generally known as the AIR Awards). It took place on 4 August 2022 in Adelaide.
The nominations were revealed on 18 May 2022 with all material being released in 2021. [3]
Owusu won three awards from three nominations. In a video acceptance speech after winning Independent Album of the Year, Owusu said, "I poured everything that I had into the making of this album, simply for my own sanity and mental well-being, so the fact that it's being recognised by so many young people globally and industry-wise is insane to me. And I'm humble and grateful for it." [4]
The late Warren Costello was honoured with the 2022 Outstanding Achievement Award, being recognised for his more than 30 years spent supporting independent artists and labels, including time spent as the managing director for Liberation Music. [2]

Joshua Hayden Cunningham is an Australian guitarist, vocalist and songwriter who is one-third of folk rock band the Waifs. His involvement with the Waifs has resulted in a total of four Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Award wins, all in 2003 for Up All Night and ten further nominations. Cunningham has released five studio albums with The Waifs and co-writes songs with fellow members Donna Simpson and Vikki Thorn, including "Lighthouse", which was nominated for ARIA Award for Single of the Year at the ARIA Music Awards of 2003.
Joseph Tawadros is an Egyptian-born Coptic Australian multi-instrumentalist and oud virtuoso. Tawadros has won the ARIA Award for Best World Music Album five times: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2020. and 2021.

Casey Barnes is an Australian country rock singer-songwriter from Tasmania, Australia who is best known as a contestant on the seventh season of Australian Idol in 2009. Barnes won the ARIA Award for Best Country Album in 2022.
The Rubens are an award winning 5 piece alternative rock band from Menangle, Australia. The band comprises the three Margin brothers, Izaac, Sam and Elliott, and friends Scott Baldwin and William Zeglis. Their debut self-titled album The Rubens gained them domestic success with it reaching number 3 on the ARIA Charts and being nominated for a J Award for Album of the Year.

Milk! Records was an Australian record label founded in 2012 by musicians Jen Cloher and Courtney Barnett. In early 2019, Tom Larnach-Jones previously of Trifekta Records took over the role of label manager.
The Teskey Brothers are an Australian blues rock band from Melbourne, named after the two brothers who formed the group in 2008: Josh Teskey and Sam Teskey. In 2019, they signed with Glassnote Records and Ivy League Records. They have released three albums: Half Mile Harvest (2017), Run Home Slow (2019) and The Winding Way (2023). At the 2019 ARIA Music Awards, The Teskey Brothers were nominated for seven awards. They won three categories for the album Run Home Slow, Best Group, Best Blues and Roots Album and Engineer of the Year.
Kofi Owusu-Ansah, known by his stage name Genesis Owusu, is a Ghanaian-Australian rapper and singer from Canberra. He is the younger brother of fellow hip hop rapper, Kojo Owusu-Ansah p.k.a. Citizen Kay. Owusu's debut studio album, Smiling with No Teeth, reached the ARIA Albums Chart top 30. At the 2021 ARIA Music Awards he won four trophies for Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Release, Best Independent Release and Best Cover Art.
Josh Teskey is an Australian blues musician, best known for his work with the Teskey Brothers. Teskey released the collaborative studio album, Push the Blues Away with Ash Grunwald, on 13 November 2020, which peaked at number 8 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Mildlife are a Melbourne-based, Australian psychedelic jazz fusion group formed in 2013. The group have released three albums.
Martha Marlow, is an Australian singer, songwriter, artist and musician. Marlow's debut studio album, Medicine Man was released in May 2021 and received a nomination for ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album at the 2021 ARIA Music Awards.
King Stingray is an Australian rock band from Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. With a sound self-described as "Yolŋu surf rock", the band perform songs with lyrics in both English and Yolŋu Matha. King Stingray released their debut single, "Hey Wanhaka", in October 2020, and their self-titled debut album on 5 August 2022.
Cooking Vinyl Australia is an independent record label based in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 2013 by co-managing directors Leigh Gruppetta and Stu Harvey in partnership with Martin Goldschmidt, Cooking Vinyl Australia works with a variety of international and domestic label partners.
