AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem (born 29 March 1965) [1] is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Shariatpur-2 constituency. He served as deputy minister of the ministry of Water Resources during 2019-2024.
Shameem was born in 1965 to Bengali Muslim parents Abul Hashem Miah and Begum Ashrafunnesa in the village of Malatkandi in Bhedarganj,Faridpur district,East Pakistan (now Shariatpur District,Bangladesh). He completed his education from the A. M. High School in Noakhali and Dhaka Residential Model College. He graduated from the Jahangirnagar University. [2]
Shameem was elected to Parliament on 30 December 2018 from Shariatpur-2 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Water Resources. He was voted VP of JUCSU (Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union) from 1989 to 1991. He led Bangladesh Chhatra League (student league) as the President from 1994 to 1998. He was also a member of the central committee of Bangladesh Awami League and served as the Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League. [3] He is the founder of Port City International University. [4] His brother AKM Aminul Haque is a serving Major General of Bangladesh Army. [5]
Begum Khaleda Zia is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the prime minister of Bangladesh from March 1991 to March 1996,and again from June 2001 to October 2006. She was the first female prime minister of Bangladesh and second female prime minister in the Muslim world,after Benazir Bhutto. Abul Hasnat Muhammad Qamaruzzaman was a Bangladeshi politician,government minister and a leading member of the Awami League. On 20 April 1971,General Tikka Khan ordered Abidur Reza Khan along with Nazrul Islam,Tazzuddin Ahmad,Abdul Mannan,and Tofael Ahmed to surrender for treason.
1999 JU Anti-Rape Movement is a series of student protests against the culture of rape and sexual harassment in the Jahangirnagar University of Bangladesh. The movement initiated in 1998 when Bangladesh Chhatra League activists celebrated the 100th rape of women by their leader Jasimuddin Manik,who was the General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League. After a year-long protests dominated by female students,on August 2,1999,Jasimuddin Manik and his armed cadres,accused of numerous rape and sexual harassments inside the campus were ousted from the university.
AKM Aminul Haque is a major general of the Bangladesh Army and former director general of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. He was the chairman of the Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank.
