Sun Li-jen was a Chinese Nationalist (KMT) general, a graduate of Virginia Military Institute in the United States, best known for his leadership in the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. His military achievements earned him the laudatory nickname "Rommel of the East". His New First Army was known as the "Best Army under heaven" and credited with effectively confronting Japanese troops in the 1937 Battle of Shanghai and in the Burma Campaign, 1943–1944.

The film was shot in Taiwan and the Philippines in 42 days from 5 April until 17 May 1989. Mainly set in 1960s Taipei, the story follows a young girl Lu Yi-ping as she plotted revenge against her father—formerly a warlord in Northeast China who had 9 wives before fleeing the Chinese Communist Revolution for Taiwan—and his entire household, including her kind half-sister Lu Ru-ping.

Carol Chen Wan-hui is a Taiwanese politician. She was appointed a party-list member of the Legislative Yuan in 2022, representing the Taiwan People's Party. Chen replaced Ann Kao, who had been elected the Mayor of Hsinchu. Chen stepped down from the legislature in 2024.
