A Retrospective is a compilation album composed of the entire recorded output of screamo band Saetia, released October 1, 2001 by Level Plane. The album, which also includes five live recordings taken from one of the last shows the band performed at ABC No Rio, was remastered entirely by Alan Douches.

A compilation album comprises tracks, which may be previously released or unreleased, usually from several separate recordings by either one or several performers. If by one artist, then generally the tracks were not originally intended for release together as a single work, but may be collected together as a greatest hits album or box set. If from several performers, there may be a theme, topic, time period, or genre which links the tracks, or they may have been intended for release as a single work—such as a tribute album. When the tracks are by the same recording artist, the album may be referred to as a retrospective album or an anthology.

Screamo subgenre of hardcore punk

Screamo is an aggressive subgenre of emo that emerged in the early 1990s, emphasizing "willfully experimental dissonance and dynamics." It was pioneered by San Diego bands Heroin and Antioch Arrow and developed in the late 1990s mainly by bands from the East Coast of the United States such as Orchid, Saetia, and Pg. 99. Screamo is strongly influenced by hardcore punk and characterized by the use of screamed vocals. Lyrical themes usually include emotional pain, death, romance, and human rights. "Screamo" has often been mistakenly used as an umbrella term for any music that features screamed vocals.

Saetia was a New York City-based screamo band. Their name originates from a misspelling of the Miles Davis track "Saeta", from his album Sketches of Spain. While relatively unknown during their existence, the band is now seen as one of the most critically lauded bands of the late-1990s screamo scene. Their music has been called an "essential document" for fans of the genre.
