The album was produced by Neil Kernon and features guest appearances by guitarists Ron Jarzombek, Pat O'Brien, and the jazz bassist Michael Manring. An instrumental album, Zero Order Phase was recorded in March 2008 at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington. In addition to Loomis on guitar, keyboards and bass, the album features ex-Nevermore member Mark Arrington on drums.

Spiral Architect was a Norwegian progressive metal band from Oslo. The group formed in 1993 and recorded one demo and one full-length album, A Sceptic's Universe, as well as a Fates Warning cover "A Prelude to Ruin" for the tribute album Through Different Eyes – A Tribute to Fates Warning. Since that time, the various group's members have moved onto other bands and musical projects. Even though the group got together for a couple of songwriting sessions, a second album has never materialized.
Santiago Dobles is a Venezuelan guitarist, songwriter, producer and son of Venezuelan symphonic composer Gustavo Dobles. He is best known as the founding member of tech-prog-fusion metal band Aghora. He has produced with Dan Escuariza, and Neil Kernon. Kernon produced Formless cd. Dan did the self-titled debut cd.

Excess All Areas is the third album by the Birmingham, England band Shy. Recorded in the Netherlands with producer Neil Kernon, the album was published in 1987 on RCA/BMG. The album featured Shy's biggest hit, "Break Down The Walls", co-written with Don Dokken and reached Britain's top 75, with Metal Hammer magazine being appreciative.
Moving Target is the début album by the band Moving Target, headed by frontman Simon Townshend, the younger brother of The Who's guitarist Pete Townshend. The album, released by the label Polydor Records in 1985, Moving Target was Moving Target's only release, and was a commercial failure. It also marked the end of the career for the band, but is often counted among Townshend's discography, sometimes credited as a solo effort.
