A Short Story About a War is a concept album focused around The Fool in a war controlled by the Snipers, Revolutionaries, the Establishment, and the Stone-Throwers, described as "holding a mirror to our world – a provocative story told through disarmingly catchy songs that weaves through issues of migration, environment, politics and above all, the human spirit." [2]
He had released the singles for this album "The Fool Pt. 1 (Get it Got it Good)" on July 26, 2018, along with a music video, [3] "The Fool Pt. 3 (State of Mind)" on August 29, 2018, along with a music video, [4] and the song "The Stone Throwers (Gone in a Blink)" on September 26, 2018.

A Short Story about a War has received generally positive review from critics. Eric Lowers from Exclaim! said, "Shad's A Short Story About a War isn't a one-listen album, but rather one with multiple layers that need to be peeled back to fully grasp its concept.". [5] The Spill Magazine declared the album for Editor's Picks and Nicholas Musilli states that, "A Short Story About A War delivers the raw reality of injustice, greed, and racism in our present time and space. Shad's sixth studio album stands out as collage of expressionism, a mixed-media of sorts." and that "A Short Story About A War delivers in the most uncomfortable way, while difficult at times, it speaks an honest emotional truth." [6] In July 2019, A Short Story about a War was shortlisted for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize. [9]

Dallas Michael John Albert Green is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer who records under the name City and Colour. He is also known for his contributions as a singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. In 2005, he debuted his first full-length album, Sometimes, which achieved platinum certification in 2006. City and Colour began performing in small intimate venues between Alexisonfire tours. The name City and Colour comes from his own name: Dallas, a city, and Green, a colour. His reasoning for the name was that he felt uneasy "putting the album out under the name Dallas Green".

The Glorious Sons are a Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario. Formed in 2011, the band signed with Black Box in 2013. Since then, The Glorious Sons have released one EP, Shapeless Art, and three full-length albums; The Union, which was released on September 14, 2014, and their second album Young Beauties and Fools, which was released on October 13, 2017, and finally A War On Everything released September 13, 2019. Reyez has written songs for Calvin Harris, Kehlani, Dua Lipa and Normani, most notably penning the hit "One Kiss", and has collaborated with Eminem on multiple occasions. Her debut album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, was released on March 27, 2020, to widespread critical acclaim, and saw commercial success, entering at number thirteen on the US Billboard 200.

Haviah Mighty is a Canadian rapper from Brampton, Ontario. She rose to prominence in 2016 as a member of the hip hop group the Sorority, before releasing several EPs on her own, most notably Flower City, in 2017. Her first album, 13th Floor, was released in 2019 and won the Polaris Music Prize. After her debut, XXL named her one of the "15 Toronto rappers you should know" and CBC Music called her one of the "New Faces of Canadian Hip Hop".
The 2019 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on September 16, 2019. Haviah Mighty won the $50,000 dollar prize for her debut album 13th Floor, becoming the first Black woman and first hip hop artist to win the prize.
