Las Anod is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland.

Lacle has extensive experience in naval warfare, electricity and mechanics, politics and diplomacy. He has taught subjects in naval warfare and engineering in the Technical Maritime Intermediate School of the National Somali Navy and served as director from 1981 to 1982. He served in the Somali Navy from 1975 to 1991 and held several commanding positions at his time before the Somali Civil War broke. He holds the rank of naval captain. He currently resides in Garoe, the capital of Puntland.
Ilays National University (INU), is a university in Las Anod, Somaliland. The university was established by Prof. Tungub, who at first set up the Ilays Educational Academy. INU was officially formed in 2012 with the purpose of providing higher education to the graduates of the academy and the residents of Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions. The university is taught by teachers from outside the country, along with native Somali lecturers.
Adhi'adeye or Ade Adeeye is a town in the Sool region of Somaliland. It is around 30 miles northwest of Las Anod, the regional capital of Sool.
Dhummay is a town in the Sool region of Somaliland. It is 35 miles south of Las Anod, the regional capital of Sool. The town is inhabited by the Dhulbahante clan. In 2017, it was the centre of raging conflict between two sub-clans whom both inhabit the city.

The ensuing heavy clashes resulted in Somaliland ousting the Puntland army from the town. The battle was significant as it was the first time both forces clashed directly.
Abdirahim Ali Ismail Farah, nicknamed Qase is a Somali politician, and the current Mayor of Las Anod, the capital and the largest city of Sool region of Somaliland since 20 June 2021. He succeeded Abdiaziz Hussein Hassan on 20 June 2021 after the 2021 Somaliland municipal elections.
