The Mayor of Berbera is the executive of the municipal government in Berbera City and the surrounding city's territory administration. The current mayor is Abdishakur Mohamoud Hassan, who took office on 20 December 2012. [2]

The regions of Somaliland is divided into six administrative regions, Awdal, Sahil, Maroodi-Jeeh, Togdheer, Sanaag and Sool. These are in turn subdivided into twenty-two districts. Regions of Somaliland are the primary geographical divisions through which Somaliland is administered. A distinction is made between districts of grades A, B, C and D, with the classification being based on population, area, economy and production.

Shire formerly served as the Foreign Minister of Somaliland. He is also served as the Minister of Planning and National Development of Somaliland. Berbera Public Library, is the main library in the city centre of Berbera, Somaliland. The first Berbera library was opened in 2014. It was later expanded and is now known as the Berbera Public Library.

Mohamed Yusuf Abdirahman also known as Murad is a Somali politician, and the longest serving Mayor of Burao, the capital and the largest city of Togdheer region of Somaliland, serving from 2012 to 2021. He belongs to the Reer Biniin, Ahmed Farah sub-division of the Habr Je'lo Isaaq. He was succeeded by Abdirisaq Ibrahim Abdi on 20 June 2021 after the 2021 Somaliland municipal elections.

Allaybaday is a town in the Maroodi Jeex region of Somaliland, on the border with Ethiopia. It is inhabited by Abdalla Abokor, Sa'ad Musa branch of the Habar Awal clan.
The Isaaq Sultanate was a Somali kingdom that ruled parts of the Horn of Africa during the 18th and 19th centuries. It spanned the territories of the Isaaq clan in modern-day Somaliland and Ethiopia. The sultanate was governed by the Rer Guled branch of the Garhajis clan and is the pre-colonial predecessor to the modern Republic of Somaliland.
